Job summary

Black & Veatch Corporation in Pune seeks an Associate Engineer-Electrical Power Gen to contribute as a technical specialist on major projects. You will progressively expand knowledge across disciplines while supporting design, calculations, and client-facing activities.

You will collaborate with project teams, mentor junior staff, and ensure that deliverables meet scope, quality, and timeline requirements in a staff role based in Pune.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering; 8+ years’ related work experience.
  • Proficient in LV/MV switchgear diagrams and electrical design deliverables.
  • Familiarity with NFPA/IEC standards and power system protection concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares complex engineering deliverables and calculations for electrical power systems.
  • Coordinates with project leadership and other team members on design details.
  • Mentors entry level professionals and interns as skills develop.
  • Ensures adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Job Summary

Under general supervision and applying knowledge gained with experience, begins functioning as a technical specialist. Continues to build on experience and gain more in depth knowledge working on larger and more complex assignments. May start to expand knowledge into other disciplines and/or functional areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Continues to learn and remains current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies and procedures. Applies to assigned tasks as appropriate.
  • Continues developing and can independently apply knowledge. Complies with B&V quality program relative to assigned tasks. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepares a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables. Performs research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Collects, assimilates, and manages data for engineering work. Prepares increasingly complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles. Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements. May recognize, define and resolve problems within assigned area. May provide direction and guidance to others.
  • Assigns tasks to develop entry level professionals and interns. Coordinates with project leadership and other internal/external team members on less complex projects. Interacts as needed with other disciplines on details of design work.
  • Works to understand external client's interest and drivers through regular interaction and communication. Also focuses on needs of internal clients and project leadership. May provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes.
  • As skills develop, may assist with performance management process, recognition, and any corrective actions required. Actively mentors entry level professionals and interns.
Management Responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Creates LV and MV switchgear meter and relay diagrams
  • Creates Generator and/or Transformer Meter and Relay diagrams
  • Performs load flow, short circuit, AC and DC arc flash, static motor starting, GSU sizing, generator breaker and bus duct sizing) in ETAP and or SKM
  • Create calculations for transformers, EDG, bus duct sizing
  • Reviews vendor submittals and responds to RFIs
  • Prepare equipment specifications for LV and MV switchgear, Power Transformers, GSU Transformers, generator breakers, protective relay panels, isolated phase and or non seggregated phase bus duct • Prepare electrical construction specifications
  • Prepare protective relay settings for overcurrent relays.
  • Prepare insulation coordination studies
  • Prepare protective relay settings for Large transformers including differential relays
  • Will be involved in sizing and specifying grounding transformers and or grounding reactors •
  • Become familiar with Electrical Physical design and effectively works and coordinates with PLD and other Tehnicians working on Electrical Physical Desing including raceway, cable tray, grounding and layout of electrical equipment.
  • Conversant in NFPA 780, NEC (NFPA 70) and IEC standard
  • Knowledegable in hazardous area classification
  • Flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
  • Previous experience within Power Plant.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Self-motivated to deliver results when given a deadline.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and leverage data and metrics to challenge current assumptions.
  • Sound, professional communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 8 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
