Associate Economics Analyst, United States (U.S.)

Overview

The Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) is an economics lab powering scale at Mastercard by owning economic thought leadership in support of Mastercard's efforts to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy.

Launched in 2020, MEI analyzes economic trends through the lens of the consumer to deliver tailored and actionable insights on economic issues for customers, partners, and policymakers.

The Institute comprises economists and data scientists who utilize and synthesize anonymized and aggregated data from the Mastercard network, along with public data, to generate powerful insights presented through reports, thought leadership, media participation, and commercial solutions within the company's product suites.

About the Role

We are seeking an economic analyst to conduct data analytics and economic research focused on the European region. This individual will report to the Manager, Economist, U.S., and will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting client and stakeholder engagements across the U.S.
  2. Collaborating with external clients, academic institutions, and industry partners.
  3. Developing and testing hypotheses at the intersection of economics, retail, and commerce.
  4. Structuring work at the stream or small project level.
  5. Analyzing large and complex datasets, including big data and macroeconomic data, to develop diagnostic indices.
  6. Generating insights to create impactful storylines and visuals.
  7. Synthesizing analyses into clear recommendations and assisting in report and presentation drafting.
  8. Enhancing existing products and developing new solutions with internal stakeholders.
  9. Proactively acquiring new knowledge and structuring projects to capture intellectual capital.
  10. Participating in solution development and thought leadership activities, sharing best practices to improve quality and productivity.
All About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics (preferred), Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Expertise in R, Python, or other major programming languages.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript for visualization is a plus.
  • Proficiency in econometric and statistical techniques such as predictive modeling, logistic regression, survival analysis, time series modeling, design of experiments, decision trees, and data mining methods is desirable.
