Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Chennai invites an engineering liaison to partner with Gas Turbine Engineering and IT teams to design, implement, and support digital engineering solutions that boost product development and data quality.

The role focuses on translating business needs into scalable tools and workflows for CAD, PLM, and engineering data management, while driving adoption of AI-enabled processes across gas turbine programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary liaison between gas turbine engineering teams and IT organizations to identify, prioritize, and implement engineering technology solutions.
• Gather, analyze, and document business requirements for CAD, PLM, engineering data management, configuration management, and digital engineering systems.
• Lead development, testing, deployment, and support of engineering tools, applications, workflows, and automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, software development, and business process teams to enhance CAD, PLM, and engineering business systems.
• Drive adoption of digital engineering technologies, including automation, data analytics, AI-enabled engineering solutions, and workflow optimization.
• Support and improve engineering applications used for design, drawing creation, product structure management, change management, and engineering release processes.
• Analyze engineering workflows and identify opportunities to improve productivity, data quality, process compliance, and user experience.
• Develop business cases, functional specifications, test plans, validation procedures, and implementation strategies for engineering technology initiatives.
• Coordinate system upgrades, configuration changes, new capability deployments, and integration activities while ensuring minimal disruption to engineering operations.
• Provide technical support, training, user guidance, and change management for engineering tools and digital processes.
• Monitor emerging technologies and industry best practices in CAD, PLM, digital engineering, automation, and AI to recommend solutions that improve product development effectiveness.
• Support strategic initiatives that strengthen engineering capability, accelerate product development, improve engineering data quality, and enable digital transformation across gas turbine programs.
