Job summary

Room to Read seeks an Associate, Data and Evaluation to support the Literacy Program in Hazaribagh District, Jharkhand. The role focuses on designing, implementing, and managing monitoring and evaluation systems for the district, reporting to the Officer, Data and Evaluation.

The candidate will train staff, build dashboards, and collaborate with program teams to enhance M&E practices, ensuring data quality and timely insights for program improvement.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education, development, or social sciences.
  • Around five years of professional experience.
  • Strong analytical skills including data cleaning, analysis and interpretation.
  • Experience in creating dashboards in PowerBI and Excel.
  • Experience in designing forms in SurveyCTO.
  • Proven experience in monitoring and evaluation methods.
  • Strong operational management ability: results-focused and organized.
  • Ability to travel frequently to project sites and other locations.
  • Strong English and Hindi communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and analyze monthly monitoring data for programs.
  • Design project dashboards and manage dashboards for management review.
  • Collaborate with program team to design monitoring forms and digitize them.
  • Coordinate with INCO RM&E on data challenges and reflections.
  • Train staff to conduct strong evaluations following M&E standards.
  • Synthesize data and write program-based summary reports.
  • Identify issues in program quality and propose improvements.
  • Codify best practices for shared use across states and new sites.
  • Travel across urban and rural areas to oversee M&E implementation.

Position Overview:

The Associate, Data and Evaluation primary responsibilities will include providing support and assistance to the Literacy Program (for below said tasks). The position will report directly to the Officer, Data and Evaluation and will be based in Hazaribagh District, Jharkhand. The Associate’s primary responsibilities will include establishing and providing guidance and expertise to the team on designing, implementing, and managing the monitoring and evaluation systems across the district.

Responsibilities:
  • In collaboration with the District Lead, the Officer, Data and Evaluation and program team. The associate will design, implement, and analyze monthly monitoring data for Program. Support in designing Project Dashboard and manage dashboard and inform the management about the key changes observed on monthly basis.

  • Collaborate with Program team to design different monitoring forms, digitize them and maintain monitoring and evaluation efforts in program.

  • Update and discussion with INCO RM&E team on data related challenges and reflection.

  • Implement and analyze periodic data based on agreed upon geographic and timing needs.

  • Train and mentor staff to help them develop the necessary knowledge and skill sets to run methodologically strong evaluations in their projects and programs and ensure adherence to M&E standard practices, policies, and specifications.

  • Synthesize and analyze data and write summary reports by program based on the M&E results.

  • Identify key issues around program quality and links between monitoring and evaluation and quality assurance and improvement.

  • Recommend improvements to District Lead, State Manager and Senior Program Manager to more efficiently and effectively manage each program based on M&E findings

  • Work with program staff and RME team to codify best practices for Room to Read’s programs so that they can be shared across existing states of operation and rolled out in new ones

  • Innovate new M&E systems and projects to continuously improve our work in the field

  • Travel regularly throughout the year in urban and rural areas to oversee the implementation of our M&E work, train staff and maintain understanding of current stage of development of M&E practice in the organization, and identify where and how M&E practice requires improvement and investment

  • Stay informed trends in area of monitoring and evaluation and recommend improvements to our systems accordingly

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Master’s degree in a related field, i.e., education, development, social sciences

  • Around Five (05) years of professional experience

  • Strong analytical skills including data cleaning, analysis and interpretation

  • Experience in creating dashboards in PowerBI and Excel.

  • Experience in designing forms in SurveyCTO.

  • Proven previous experience in monitoring and evaluation methods

  • Strong operational management ability: a clear focus on results – sets goals, plans and prioritizes effectively, monitors quality and progress of work against plans

  • Ability to travel frequently to project sites and other

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and Hindi

  • Knowledge and understanding of education issues, gender issues, including community involvement in schools.

  • Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of tasks.
