Job summary

The Associate Consultant – Cardiology is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical care to patients with cardiovascular diseases under the guidance and supervision of the Consultant/HOD.

The role includes patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, management of cardiac emergencies, participation in diagnostic and interventional procedures, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical care.

Qualifications

• MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
• MD/DNB in General Medicine or equivalent postgraduate qualification.
• DM/DNB/DrNB in Cardiology or an equivalent recognized qualification, as applicable to hospital recruitment criteria.
• Valid medical registration with the applicable medical regulatory authority.
• Relevant certifications in BLS/ACLS are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients with suspected or confirmed cardiovascular diseases through detailed history-taking, physical examination, and clinical assessment.
• Diagnose and manage common cardiovascular conditions in accordance with established clinical guidelines and hospital protocols.
• Review and interpret relevant investigations such as ECG, echocardiography, Holter monitoring, stress tests, cardiac biomarkers, and other diagnostic reports.
• Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans in consultation with the senior cardiologist when required.
• Conduct regular rounds and monitor the clinical progress of admitted patients.
• Manage patients in the Cardiology Ward, CCU/ICCU, emergency department, and other assigned clinical areas.
• Provide timely assessment and management of cardiac emergencies, including acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, heart failure, and other critical cardiac conditions.
• Assist or participate in cardiac procedures and interventions as per clinical competence and hospital privileges.

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

Ensure appropriate pre-procedure assessment, informed consent, patient preparation, and post-procedure monitoring.

Monitor patients for complications and initiate appropriate management or elevate to the Consultant/HOD when required.

Prescribe and administer treatment within the scope of clinical privileges and hospital policies.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, clinical notes, investigation reports, discharge summaries, and treatment documentation.

Communicate diagnosis, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up requirements clearly to patients and their attendants.

Coordinate with nursing staff, cardiac technicians, intensivists, anesthetists, and other specialists for comprehensive patient management.

Participate in multidisciplinary discussions, clinical meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, and quality-improvement initiatives.

Ensure compliance with infection-control, patient-safety, medication-safety, and hospital clinical protocols.

Provide support and guidance to junior doctors, residents, and medical staff as assigned.

Participate in teaching, training, academic activities, and continuing medical education programs.

Maintain professional confidentiality and comply with applicable medical ethics and hospital policies.

Perform other clinical and administrative responsibilities assigned by the HOD or senior consultant.

Required Qualifications

Exposure to diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures will be an advantage.

Strong clinical knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and their management.

Good clinical assessment and diagnostic decision-making skills.

Ability to manage cardiac emergencies effectively.

Knowledge of ECG interpretation and cardiac diagnostic modalities.

Understanding of pharmacological management of cardiovascular conditions.

Working Conditions

The Associate Consultant will work across the Cardiology Department, Cardiac ICU/CCU/ICCU, inpatient wards, emergency areas, outpatient services, and procedure areas as required. The position may involve rotational duties, emergency calls, night duties, weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities according to hospital requirements.
