Background:

It is India's leading independent child rights NGO - with offices in 15 states of India. We run programmes in remotest corners of India and urban areas in the areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Humanitarian Response, in order to provide quality education and healthcare, protection from harm, abuse, and lifesaving aid during emergencies to children.
Function:
To contribute towards bringing children (6-14 years), adolescents & young adults (15-24 years) out of harmful work and mainstream them into formal education and provide career guidance.
Specific Objective(s)
1. Potential and existing child labour cases across the targeted pocket is prevented and rehabilitated through school readiness, education (boys and girls of 6 – 14 years of age) and viable livelihood opportunities (youths/adolescents – boys and girls between 15-24 years of age)
2. Create an enabling environment by working with communities and engaging with government stakeholders to work towards eliminating child labour.
The project proposes to identify and rehabilitate children aged 6 to 18 engaged in all forms of harmful labour. Children aged 6 to 14 years engaged in child labour will be identified, withdrawn form harmful work, provided academic support and skills in community-based Multi Activity Centres by staff and then supported to enrol in and regularly attend local schools in the area. Adolescents aged 15 to 18 will be identified, withdrawn from harmful work and supported to enrol in interest-based educational and vocational training courses, provided individual career counselling and connected with further training and decent work and/or entrepreneurship opportunities. Counselling sessions, case management and referral processes will be used to support recovery and rehabilitation of children addicted to harmful substances. To compensate for families’ loss of income from child labour, they will be connected with a range of relevant government social protection schemes and services and will be supported to acquire legal identity documents in order to access these schemes where needed. Additionally, to enable child-rights respecting communities and prevent future child labour, child rights campaigns and trainings, community focused sessions on the pernicious impacts of child labour will be carried out and government recognized and supported child protection and welfare committees will be established.
Outcome 1: 60 Children at risk and survivors of child labour (non-enrolled, out of school and drop out 6-14 years) are enrolled in schools and continue quality formal education or relevant bridge schooling through the MACs.
Outcome 2: To create an enabling environment by working with communities and government stakeholders to create positive learning environment and mainstreaming for elimination all forms of child labour.
Outcome 3: Facilitate Adolescents and Youth for NIOS, Vocational Training and Entrepreneurship Development programme for Decent Employability and Higher Studies of 50 adolescents and youth of ages 15-24 years.
Role Purpose:
The Assistant - Academic Support Fellow will look after the operations of the Multi Activity Centres and provide for bridge schooling and remedial education support to children engaged in labour and mainstream them into formal education, supporting children to use materials provides, delivering life-skills education (for children between 6 - 14 years of age.
S/he will also be responsible for to maintain cordial relationship with external stakeholders at community level along with like schools, parents & community leaders.
Also act as Save the Children’s advocacy representative in the district to a broad range of external stakeholders including relevant government departments on issues related to play way quality early childhood and primary education. Work under strong thematic supervision of the Project Assistant/Assistant Manager in order to maintain a consistent and coherent education strategy in the intervention area.
Role and responsibilities:
Identification of children involved in child labour in the intervention area.
Setting up of MAC (Multi Activity Centres) in the intervention area.
Provide for bridge schooling and remedial education support to multi grade and multi aged children engaged in labour and mainstream them into formal education
Liaison with the stakeholders.
Identifying the challenges faced by the community and design a robust and sustainable solution.
Work in close co-ordination with Project Coordinator to implement planned activities.
Regularly communicate and work with local leaders, community influencers and duty bearers to build awareness and understanding among them with respect to the project objectives.
Preparing monthly reports and documenting case studies and best practices of your respective MACs.
Develop enabling environment for the children in the community
Further, assist with any additional activities relevant to the project.
S/he would document periodic progress, case studies of best practices etc of her assigned area and share with the Assistant Manager.
Timely collection and submission of all MIS related information and data to Project Coordinator/Assistant Manager.
Submit work plan on a weekly/monthly basis to the Project Coordinator/Assistant Manager.
Submit monthly progress report to the Project Coordinator/Assistant Manager.

Key relationships:
Experience
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in relevant sectors such with at least 1 years of experience working with AWC/School/ Community/ Children Groups/ Government stakeholders.
Master or Graduate in social work experience or in any Teaching discipline from a recognized university or college, B.Ed or teaching experience is essential. Weightage will be given to candidates with experience related to women candidate/or anyone having sound knowledge on Child Protection & Community mobilization.
