Job description

Overview

CACTUS is a remote-first organization that embraces an accelerate-from-anywhere culture. However, based on the nature of this role and business requirements, the position may require working from our Andheri East office on specific days under a hybrid model, or from the office on all working days, as required.

We are seeking a meticulous, accountable, and technically sound professional to join our Reporting & Compliance function. This is an Individual Contributor (IC) role with a primary focus on core accounting, payroll accounting, fixed asset accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close activities across multiple entities. The role will also support financial reporting, audit requirements, revenue assurance, and continuous improvement of accounting processes.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified Chartered Accountant with 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification experience and strong practical knowledge of accounting and reconciliations. Experience in a multi-entity or MNC environment, along with exposure to ERP systems and financial reporting, will be an advantage.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of assigned responsibilities, maintains a high level of accuracy, can independently investigate and resolve routine accounting issues, and is comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving business requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Core Accounting & Month-End Close: Manage assigned accounting activities and support the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close process. Ensure that accounting entries, provisions, accruals, expense allocations and other closing activities are completed accurately and within stipulated timelines. Review transactions for appropriate accounting treatment and ensure that financial records are complete, accurate and supported by relevant documentation.
  • Payroll Accounting: Manage payroll-related accounting activities in coordination with HR and payroll teams, including recording salary and employee benefit expenses, payroll provisions and accruals, statutory deductions and other payroll-related liabilities. Reconcile payroll records with the general ledger and supporting reports, investigate and resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely accounting of payroll-related transactions as part of the monthly close process.
  • Fixed Asset Accounting: Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring that asset additions, disposals, transfers and other movements are recorded accurately and in a timely manner. Perform periodic reconciliation of the fixed asset register with the general ledger, calculate and record depreciation, and ensure appropriate accounting for capitalisation and asset disposals in accordance with applicable accounting policies. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to obtain supporting information and resolve differences relating to fixed assets and capital expenditure.
  • Account Reconciliations: Prepare and maintain reconciliations for P&L accounts, Balance Sheet accounts, intercompany balances and other key general ledger accounts. Ensure that balances are supported by appropriate schedules, reports and documentation, and that reconciling items are identified, investigated and resolved on a timely basis. Follow up on long-outstanding items with relevant stakeholders, maintain clear explanations for material movements and unusual balances, and ensure reconciliations are completed within the prescribed close timelines. Support the accuracy and integrity of financial records by identifying discrepancies and proposing appropriate corrective actions.
  • Financial Reporting: Lead the preparation and review of accurate and timely standalone financial statements and related financial reporting in accordance with Ind AS, IFRS and other applicable accounting requirements.
  • Group Consolidation & Audit: Support group consolidation activities by collecting and validating financial information from group entities, assisting with intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, and preparing consolidation schedules and supporting documentation. Assist in investigating and resolving consolidation-related discrepancies and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of information submitted for group reporting. Support statutory and internal audit activities by preparing audit schedules, reconciliations and supporting documents, responding to audit queries relating to assigned areas, and coordinating with relevant stakeholders to facilitate timely audit completion.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Develop, implement and maintain robust financial controls and ensure compliance with applicable accounting, statutory and internal requirements. Support SOX and other control-related activities, where applicable.
  • Process Improvement & Automation: Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate reporting, consolidation, close and compliance processes, and drive initiatives that improve efficiency, accuracy and control.
  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with HR, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, Treasury, Operations and other relevant teams to obtain information, resolve accounting discrepancies and complete reporting activities within timelines. Communicate issues and outstanding requirements clearly, follow up proactively and ensure that dependencies affecting the close process are addressed promptly.
Qualifications and Prerequisites
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification with approximately 3-5 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • Strong understanding of core accounting, general ledger activities, month-end close and account reconciliations.
  • Hands-on experience in payroll accounting, fixed asset accounting and related reconciliations.
  • Practical knowledge of financial reporting and applicable accounting standards, including Ind AS and/or IFRS.
  • Experience in preparing and maintaining P&L, Balance Sheet, intercompany and other general ledger reconciliations, with the ability to investigate and resolve differences.
  • Exposure to financial statement schedules, audit support and internal control requirements.
  • Experience working in an MNC, global or multi-entity environment; experience in the service industry would be an advantage.
  • Experience with ERP/financial systems such as Oracle NetSuite, SAP or equivalent, along with strong MS Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies, investigate underlying causes and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • Good communication and stakeholder coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
