Qualifications

• Knowledge of BOM preparation, cost analysis, vendor development, and quality improvement.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and service teams.

Job Purpose
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager - R&D with a strong background in Refrigeration Engineering and Research & Development to drive new product development, refrigeration system design, product improvement, cost optimization, and quality enhancement.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in refrigeration-based product development, technical problem-solving, vendor development, and cross-functional coordination with manufacturing, quality, and service teams.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Research & New Product Development

• Lead new product development (NPD), refrigeration system design, and new model launch activities.
• Drive redesign, upgradation, and customization of existing products based on customer requirements.
• Review product designs and provide inputs from product quality, serviceability, and customer perspectives.
• Participate in simulation studies and in-house laboratory testing during product development and subsequent design changes.

2. Refrigeration Design & Technical Support

• Support refrigeration design optimization, component selection, and performance improvement.
• Conduct root cause analysis of field-returns and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Provide technical support to manufacturing, assembly, service teams, and key customers.
• Coordinate with relevant departments to implement design changes during the R&D stage.

3. Vendor Development & Cost Optimization

• Identify and develop new vendors and alternative sources for critical components.
• Drive component cost reduction, value engineering, and material optimization initiatives.
• Prepare product Bills of Materials (BOMs), cost studies, and technical reports for management review.
• Coordinate with suppliers regarding critical material rejections and conduct supplier visits to investigate technical issues.

4. Quality Improvement & Manufacturing Support

• Ensure smooth assembly-line operations in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, and quality standards.
• Reduce rejection rates, improve First-Time-Right (FTR) performance, and minimize defects arising from workmanship or component failures.
• Train and guide relevant personnel on product specifications, quality requirements, and defect prevention.
• Support Special Purpose Machine (SPM) projects, including vendor and component development.

5. Certification & Compliance

• Participate in UL certification activities and support compliance-related technical requirements.
• Identify suitable components and vendors to meet applicable product specifications and certification standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product reliability, safety, and performance.

Educational Qualifications

• B.E. in Electrical Engineering.
• Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (preferred).
• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant technical field will be an added advantage.

Experience & Essential Criteria

• Minimum 5+ years of relevant professional experience in Research & Development.
• Mandatory: Strong hands-on experience in the refrigeration segment, preferably in refrigeration system design and product development.
• Experience in NPD, product redesign, testing, troubleshooting and technical problem-solving.
• Knowledge of BOM preparation, cost analysis, vendor development, and quality improvement.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and service teams.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Strong technical knowledge of refrigeration systems and associated components.
• Practical exposure to product development, testing and performance optimization.
• Good analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to take ownership of R&D projects and deliver results within defined timelines.

Important Hiring Note: Candidates with relevant R&D experience in the refrigeration segment are strongly preferred. Refrigeration background is a mandatory screening criterion; candidates without relevant refrigeration experience should not be shortlisted.
