Roles and Responsibilities
1. Month-End Close and Accruals
- Execute monthly accrual bookings for premiums, commissions, and claims.
- Review and validate month-end reports; perform trend analysis and flag anomalies.
- Manage booking of reinsurance-related accounting entries and coordinate with the finance team for ledger closures.
2. Reinsurance Statement Preparation & Settlements
- Prepare and reconcile monthly/quarterly/annual reinsurance statements.
- Manage settlement of reinsurance balances including wire transfers, clearing entries, and follow-ups.
- Ensure accuracy of treaty data for multiple countries and formats.
3. Stakeholder & Query Management
- Resolve queries received from reinsurers, controllers, and internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with local finance offices to ensure completeness of input data.
- Liaise with reinsurers for data clarifications, follow-ups, and settlement confirmations.
4. Reporting & Audit Support
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Support internal and external audit requirements, including documentation and data validation.
- Ensure compliance with treaty terms and internal controls.
5. Testing & Process Improvements
- Perform UAT (User Acceptance Testing) for new models, systems, and reporting templates.
- Validate changes in data templates or DB models (e.g., MS Access database) used in reinsurance calculations.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and documentation updates.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education
- Bachelors degree, preferably in finance or accounting and experience of 5-7 years
- CA Fresher (0-1 year)
Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience as Specialist is required in related field
- Overall experience of 5-7 years in a similar industry and related profile is required
- Experience in Reinsurance Treaty Administration (desirable)
- Should possess experience in handling end- to-end month- end activities with a strong emphasis on a time-sensitive, deadline driven month end close (essential)
- Experience in investigating outages and data issues and bringing these to resolution.
Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
- Ensure closure of all month-end activities within stipulated time with 100% accuracy. An ability to understand the underlying treaties and how the output of the RAS system relate to these. An ability to create complete and accurate reporting for both reinsurers and internal stakeholders. Should be proficient in Microsoft office tools. Ensure that the assigned targets are met in accordance with SLA and Internal standards. An ability to be analytical and solve problems is important to this role.
- Good computer navigation skills, ability to work with multiple mainframe and web-based systems
- Strong PC skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, with exceptional strength in Excel and Access
- Excellent analytical skills, with an ability to research and resolve complex problems
- Life insurance accounting/finance experience
- Reinsurance administration experience
- Experience with systems implementation/corrections/enhancements (desirable but not essential)
- Proficiency in English
- Experience reading and interpreting business documents and contracts
- Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills
- An ability to manage priorities for multiple stakeholders
- Data gathering ability/ attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to work successfully in fast paced, production- driven environment with tight deadlines
- Adaptable to change
- Should possess excellent follow-up and co-ordination ability as process involves daily unstructured and complex interaction with state-side partners and external reinsurers.
Other Requirements (good to have)
- Candidate should be well versed with accounting packages used in industry like Cubus, BI, People Soft, Cadency etc
- Knowledge of Lean Principles and its application in the process is preferred.
