Job summary

Wholsum Foods in Gurgaon is seeking an Assistant Manager - Cost Accountant (CMA) to strengthen our cost accounting, inventory controls and month-end close processes. The role focuses on COGS, product costing, inventory valuation, yield and wastage analysis, and cost control across fast-growing brands Slurrp Farm and Mille.

The ideal candidate will have CMA qualification, 2–3 years of experience in cost accounting, strong Excel skills, and hands-on experience with ERP/accounting systems.

Qualifications

• CMA / Cost Accountant qualification or relevant experience.
• 2–3 years of cost accounting, inventory accounting, costing or controllership.
• Strong understanding of BOM, standard costing, COGS, inventory valuation, yield/wastage and variance analysis.
• Proficient Excel and ERP/accounting systems.
• FMCG/manufacturing/e-commerce experience preferred.

Role Overview

We are looking for a CMA / Cost Accountant to strengthen our cost accounting, inventory controls and financial closure processes. The role will focus on COGS, product costing, inventory valuation, yield & wastage analysis, cost control and month-end closure. The role will work closely with Finance, Operations and Procurement teams to identify cost variances, improve inventory accuracy, strengthen controls and provide actionable insights on product margins and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate should have strong analytical skills, hands-on experience with costing and inventory, and a good understanding of ERP/accounting systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Product Costing & COGS:
• Review and validate monthly COGS and product-level costing.
• Analyse standard BOM vs. actual consumption and identify material consumption variances.
• Review changes in raw material, packaging and other input costs and assess their impact on product margins.
• Support standard costing and periodic revision of product costs.
• Analyse product/customer/channel-level gross margins and identify significant cost deviations.
• Inventory & Stock Reconciliation
• Perform monthly closing stock reconciliation between Tally, EasyEcom and operational records.
• Reconcile inventory sub-ledger with the General Ledger and investigate variances.
• Review inventory movements including purchases, production, sales, returns, transfers, adjustments and write-offs.
• Ensure appropriate inventory valuation and accounting treatment.
• Identify and track slow-moving, obsolete, damaged and expired inventory.
• Yield & Wastage Analysis
• Monitor production yield and wastage against standard norms.
• Analyse actual wastage versus standard/approved wastage levels.
• Identify reasons for abnormal wastage and coordinate with operations/procurement teams for corrective actions.
• Track material consumption efficiency and highlight recurring variances.
• Expense & Cost Control
• Review major operating and production-related expenses against budget/previous periods.
• Analyse significant expense variances and provide explanations.
• Ensure appropriate expense provisioning at month-end for goods/services received but invoices not yet received.
• Review provision workings, reversals and utilisation.
• Support identification of cost-saving opportunities and improve overall cost controls.
• Month-End Closure
• Support the finance team in month-end closing activities.
• Prepare/review COGS, inventory, provision and related accounting workings.
• Ensure timely booking of inventory adjustments, provisions and other cost-related entries.
• Perform month-end reconciliations and ensure open reconciling items are tracked and resolved.
• Support preparation of MIS and management reporting related to costs, margins and inventory.
• MIS & Variance Analysis
• Prepare periodic cost and variance analysis for management.
• Analyse actual cost vs. standard/budget/prior period.
• Track gross margin movements and identify key cost drivers.
• Prepare dashboards/reports covering COGS, inventory, wastage, yield and cost variances.
• Audit & Compliance Support
• Provide inventory, costing, COGS and provision schedules for statutory/internal audits.
• Support physical stock verification and reconciliation.
• Ensure proper documentation and audit trail for costing and inventory-related entries.
• Assist in implementing and strengthening internal controls around inventory and cost accounting.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING?

• CMA / Cost Accountant – qualified or with relevant experience in cost accounting.
• 2–3 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting, costing or controllership.
• Strong understanding of BOM, standard costing, COGS, inventory valuation, yield/wastage and variance analysis.
• Good Excel and analytical skills, with experience in ERP/accounting systems.
• FMCG / manufacturing/e-commerce experience would be preferred.
