Job summary

Vedam Design in Maharashtra is seeking an Assistant Manager - Basic Structure to lead the team responsible for newbuild and retrofit structural work. You will drive design concepts, oversee calculations, and ensure compliance with classification society rules on projects.

You will mentor graduates, allocate tasks, monitor baselines, and collaborate with clients, vendors, and central technical functions to deliver timely, quality results while maintaining productive utilization of the team and

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of structural engineering experience.
• BE / BTech / MTech in Mechanical or Naval Architecture.
• Ability to supervise and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Basic Structure team to ensure timely, quality deliverables.
• Build technical capability through structured training and mentoring.
• Act as technical lead on structural design projects, ensuring adherence to standards.
• Coordinate workload priorities and allocate tasks within the team.
• Supervise graduate/junior structural engineers in project development.
• Monitor project baselines and maintain productivity for the department.
• Maintain good utilization for team and software.
• Develop structural design concepts for newbuild and retrofit projects.
• Conduct structural calculations including strength, buckling, and FE analysis.
• Prepare and review classification drawings such as GA, scantlings, foundations.
• Ensure compliance with classification rules (DNV, ABS, LR) and regulations.
• Support BD with structural input for proposals and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, clients, vendors, and classification societies.

Team Management

• Lead and manage the Basic Structure team to ensure timely and quality deliverables.
• Build technical capability within the team through structured training and mentoring.
• Act as the technical lead on structural design projects, ensuring adherence to organizational and project-specific quality standards.
• Coordinate with central technical functions to define workload priorities and allocate tasks effectively within the team.
• Supervise and guide graduate/junior structural engineers in both project and professional development.
• Monitoring project baselines and maintain good productivity for the department

Technical Responsibilities

• Develop structural design concepts and arrangements for newbuild and retrofit projects.
• Conduct structural calculations including global and local strength, buckling, and FE analysis as required.
• Prepare and review classification and statutory drawings such as structural general arrangements, scantlings, foundation details, and support structures.
• Ensure compliance with classification society rules (e.g., DNV, ABS, LR) and international regulations.
• Support Business Development (BD) team by providing structural input for technical proposals and feasibility studies.
• Coordinate with other design disciplines, clients, vendors, and classification societies to integrate and validate structural solutions.
