Job summary

WSP India is seeking a Diploma-trained electrical design engineer to join the substations team in Bengaluru. You will create detailed electrical/EC&I drawings for EHV projects (11kV–400kV) using 2D/3D CAD tools and help develop SLDs, cable routing, and switchgear layouts.

Collaborating with Civil, Networks and Transmission teams, you will ensure compliance with CDM regulations, maintain high quality standards, and support design reviews.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated and eager to grow within the field.
• Familiarity with Revit and CAD software is desirable.
• Experience with UK projects is an added advantage.

Responsibilities

• Create detailed engineering drawings for Extra High Voltage (EHV) projects, covering both Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), ranging from 11kV up to 400kV (with a particular emphasis on 132kV voltages and above)

• Preparation and development of EC&I deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, loop drawings, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design and switchgear configurations using both 2D and 3D software packages;

• Develop darwings to support detailed engineering, such as Land Utilisation Plan, Elevations, Above and Below Grade Conduit layouts, Grounding layout & it’s connection details, Lighting and Lightning protection with respective details, Bill of Materials, CDM, MEWP layouts.

• Facilitate coordination of design activities across various departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission Line. Conduct design reviews, participate in virtual meetings, and collaborate closely with clients.

• Assist with preparing drawings and revising existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts.

• Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures.

• Responsible for adhering to the drafting practices of selected discipline.

• Coordinate with team members and monitor project schedules, ensuring submissions meet high-quality standards.

• Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design.

• Collaborate with WSP UK office on design activities.

• Develop and enhance processes, tools, and potentially implement new technologies into the design process.

• Periodic Quality check to be conducted for other engineers & designers.

• Exhibit ingenuity, foresight, and wise decision-making skills in proactively identifying and resolving challenges.

• Contribute to the progress and growth of departmental tools and workflows aimed at improving the effectiveness of design processes, specification development, and project implementation.

• Experience on working in Raster image files.

• Preferably familiar with UK projects. Experience of working in a lead substation design role on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects (or other UK utilities like SSEN, SPEN etc.) in the UK will be an added advantage.

• Experience in Onshore wind, Offshore wind, Renewable (solar) and BESS projects is preferred.

• Familiarity with 3D tools (Revit) for Engineering design is desirable.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

• Diploma in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
