G R A D & Company is a firm of chartered accountants, founded in Coimbatore in 2021. Its clients range from SMEs and startups to multinationals.
Each partner owns a service line, and Heads-in-Charge run the departments under them. Audit staff and articled assistants carry out the engagements and are deployed across them. The service lines are assurance, direct tax, GST, transactions and valuation, virtual CFO, accounting and systems, and corporate compliance.
You learn in three ways: from review of your own work, from structured L&D sessions, and from a half-yearly appraisal that ends in a development plan.
A partner reviews your work and explains the reasoning behind the changes. Because every file passes from preparer to manager to partner, you see how two more experienced people would have handled the same problem. Read the review notes closely; they show you exactly what a reviewer expected.
Sessions run online, you attend from your own login, and every session is recorded. The faculty shares notes, and you keep your own notes alongside them.
Technical sessions cover the Act, rules and case law, expert interpretations, recent news and upcoming changes with their effect, and where practice departs from the Act.
Practical sessions take a real-life scenario and show how to close it. They give references to the Act, rules and forms, share shortcuts and formulae, and end with a question on how the task could be simplified.
Every session ends with a problem from the faculty. You get one week to solve it. Answers are rewarded on quality, on how quickly you reply and on depth. Workings from each session are saved in a shared folder, so the firm builds a library you can use later.
You are appraised every six months. The reviewing manager or HIC assesses five things: technical competence, quality and timeliness of your work, client feedback, conduct and values, and L&D participation. A partner approves the rating.
The discussion runs both ways. It ends with written goals and a development plan for the next six months.
Client data is privileged under the ICAI Code of Ethics and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. The firm treats a breach of confidentiality as serious misconduct.
What this means for you:
Your confidentiality obligations continue after your articleship ends.
If something is wrong at work, raise it with your HIC first. If it is not resolved, it goes to the Partner, Operations, and then to the partnership. You can also report suspected fraud or unethical conduct directly to any partner in confidence. Complaints of sexual harassment go to the firm's Internal Committee under the POSH Act, 2013. Good‑faith complaints are protected from retaliation.
You have cleared both groups of CA Intermediate and meet ICAI's requirements to start practical training.
The firm hires for competence, integrity and fit. In practice, these are the qualities your reviewers and your appraisal will look for:
All of this sits on the five principles of the ICAI Code of Ethics: integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality, and professional behaviour.
Your articleship letter sets out your role, reporting line, confidentiality and notice terms.
