Job summary

Chestnut Storeys - Interior Design Studio in Chennai seeks a hands-on Architect / Interior Designer for a full-time, on-site role. You will develop design concepts for residential interiors, prepare drawings, mood boards and material palettes that reflect the studio’s narrative.

You’ll meet clients, participate in design workshops, translate needs into detailed layouts, 3D visualizations and specifications, and coordinate with vendors and artisans while overseeing site execution and timelines.

Qualifications

• Strong conceptual and spatial design skills with residential experience.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Architect / Interior Designer role based in Chennai. The role involves developing design concepts for residential interiors, preparing drawings, mood boards, and material palettes that align with the studio’s aesthetic and client narratives. The Architect / Interior Designer will meet with clients, participate in design workshops, and translate their needs into detailed layouts, 3D visualizations, and specifications. Daily responsibilities include coordinating with vendors and artisans, overseeing site execution, ensuring design quality and adherence to timelines, and managing documentation and project schedules. The role also requires collaborating closely with the studio team to refine design details, solve spatial challenges, and maintain consistency across all project stages.

Qualifications

• Strong conceptual and spatial design skills, with experience in residential architecture and interior design.
• Proficiency in design and visualization tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp/Revit, 3D rendering software, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Ability to prepare detailed drawings, technical documentation, and material specifications.
• Knowledge of finishes, furniture design, lighting, and contemporary as well as traditional materials and techniques.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills, including the ability to lead presentations and design workshops.
• Strong project coordination abilities, including vendor and site management, time management, and attention to detail.
• Formal education in Architecture or Interior Design (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent), with relevant studio or project experience.
• Interest in craft, culture, and narrative-led design; willingness to collaborate with artisans and learn new techniques.
