Job summary

JioStar is seeking an Architect for its Data Platform to define the long-term technical vision for data infrastructure powering analytics, ML, and business decisions. You will lead design of scalable systems handling massive traffic and high ingest rates across Gurgaon, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

You will partner with engineering, product, and executives to translate complex tech possibilities into measurable outcomes, shaping architecture and driving operational excellence.

Architect – Data Platform

Location: Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Mumbai

Job Summary:

As an Architect in the Data Engineering organization at JioHotstar, you will define and drive the long-term technical vision for our data platform and infrastructure. You will lead the design of scalable, reliable, and high-performance data systems that power analytics, machine learning, experimentation, and business decision-making at massive scale. These are systems that have seen world record breaking traffic, on the order of 72M LIVE concurrent users while ingesting data at 400M RPM.

In this role, you will partner closely with engineering, product, marketing, and executive stakeholders to translate complex technical possibilities into measurable business outcomes. You will play a critical role in shaping architecture, improving operational excellence, and enabling teams to build resilient, future-ready systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and evolve the long-term architecture and technical strategy for data platforms and distributed systems across teams
• Build an AI-native data platform system that is reinventing how data is ingested and analyzed at JioHotstar
• Build scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient data infrastructure to support analytics, ML, and operational workloads
• Wear the product hat and being able to think about what and how to build the next set of systems
• Drive operational excellence by improving system reliability, observability, scalability, and efficiency
• Ensure high standards in architecture, system design, code quality, and engineering best practices
• Simplify complex technical challenges into pragmatic, scalable solutions
• Create and execute technical roadmaps aligned with business and organizational goals
• Understand system dependencies, trade-offs, and limitations to guide strategic decision-making
• Lead the design and delivery of mission-critical systems and platform capabilities
• Influence engineering teams through technical leadership, architectural reviews, and hands‑on problem-solving
• Mentor engineers and technical leaders, fostering engineering growth and strong technical culture
• Encourage experimentation and rapid prototyping to accelerate innovation and reduce ambiguity

• Proven experience architecting and scaling large-scale distributed systems and data platforms
• Strong ownership mindset with a track record of leading critical initiatives from conception to production
• Excellent business acumen and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to align technical decisions to business impact
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with a bias toward simplicity and execution
• Deep expertise in software engineering fundamentals, system design, and performance optimization
• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, distributed computing, and modern backend technologies
• Experience building high-throughput, low-latency, and highly available systems
• Ability to mentor and influence teams while fostering a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture
• Comfortable operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with evolving priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with significant experience in backend and data engineering systems
• Experience working with large-scale data ecosystems, cloud-native architectures, and modern data infrastructure technologies is preferred
