Job summary

JoVE is seeking an experienced Applied AI Engineer (Python-heavy) to join our team in Bengaluru. You will build scalable backend services with Python, design RESTful APIs, and collaborate with product and platform teams to drive innovative video-enabled solutions for scientific education.

You will work with React/Next.js on the frontend, apply AI/LLM techniques in real projects, and contribute to a robust, scalable, and well-documented codebase across global teams.

Qualifications

• 4-7 years hands-on Python development experience.
• Proficient in Python frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI).
• Experience building web applications and APIs.
• Experience with AI/LLM/RAG in projects.
• Familiarity with React.js/Next.js.
• Experience with cloud platforms and Docker.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Designers, PMs, and Engineers to build scalable web experiences.

Your primary focus will be on developing new products, creating prototypes, and exploring novel use cases with emerging technologies. In this role, you\'ll collaborate closely with product managers and the platform team to drive innovation, rapidly develop new applications, and push the boundaries of what\'s possible with cutting-edge tech. • Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers to build and maintain the user experience, accessibility, and development feasibility of the website, applications, and supporting digital spaces.
• Develop and maintain scalable backend systems using Python.
• Design, build, and optimize RESTful APIs for seamless frontend-backend communication.
• Implement robust business logic and ensure high performance and responsiveness of applications.
• Build and enhance user interfaces using React.js and/or Next.js (where applicable).
• Collaborate with frontend developers, designers, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Ensure smooth integration between frontend and backend systems.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices.
• Perform debugging, testing, and performance optimization of applications.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving development standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system reliability and scalability.

Requirements

• 4-7 years of hands-on experience in Python development.
• Proven experience in building web applications and APIs.
• Must have strong proficiency in Python (e.g., Django, Flask, FastAPI).
• Experience with using AI, LLM or RAG on work projects.
• Working knowledge of React.js or (Next.js is a plus ).
• Experience with RESTful API design and integration.
• Familiarity with databases (SQL/NoSQL such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Knowledge of performance optimization and debugging techniques.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Exposure to full-stack development is preferred.
• Familiarity with Docker / containerization.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of testing frameworks (unit/integration testing).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
• Good communication skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage time and deliver within deadlines.
