Barry Callebaut’s production facilities and warehouses are rapidly evolving into connected, automated and data‑driven environments. Digital platforms such as MES (or Manufacturing Execution System) and EMS (or Energy Management System) are key enablers for standardized food safety and operational excellence, and are essential prerequisites for delivering data‑driven innovation and Industry 4.0. To accelerate the rollout of these digital platforms, we are looking for a Digital Application Engineer with proven experience in the implementation of MES, EMS and other industrial IT systems. In this role you will lead rollout projects of digital applications from design to delivery to the end‑users – Barry Callebaut factories. Your responsibilities will include writing design specifications, gathering input and validating deliverables with stakeholders, coordinating integrators for automation and MES application delivery, leading FAT testing, training end‑users and coordinating after‑care support. Your goal is to deliver applications that empower factory workers to gain insight into the manufacturing process, thereby improving productivity, reducing downtime and cutting costs.
Main Responsibilities & Scope
- Define system requirements based on business needs
- Translate user requirements into specifications for digital applications
- Integrate digital applications with legacy systems and third‑party APIs
- Install and commission digital applications
- Conduct testing and quality assurance
- Create documentation on digital applications and platforms
- Design templates, standards and tools for digital systems, platforms and equipment
- Manage suppliers
- Support sites for maintenance and upgrade of existing digital assets
- Provide support for factories regarding technical issues with installed digital applications
Scope
- Member of the global Engineering & Technical Innovation team, reporting to the Director of the Center of Expertise Digital; part of a global team of OT and digital engineers
- Opportunity to participate in an implementation program that lies at the core of Barry Callebaut’s manufacturing organization
Additional Considerations or Comments
- Travel requirements: prepared to travel approximately 30% of the time
- Prepared to join an on‑call 24/7 application support for Barry Callebaut production sites worldwide
Education, Language, Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering (preferably computer science, automation, electronics‑ICT or a related field) or equivalent by experience
- Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage
Essential Experience & Knowledge / Technical or Functional Competencies
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a multinational business context
- Experience in project management and affinity with change management
- Proven experience with digital transformation and MES projects
- Preferably experience with Wonderware products (Archestra, Intouch, System Platform, Skelta Workflow, Historian)
- Basic knowledge of SQL and databases required
- Experience in process automation is considered a plus
- Experience in the manufacturing or process industry (food & beverage, pharma, chemical) is a plus
