Data Architect Insurance Data Platform Modernization

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Architect with strong domain expertise in the insurance industry to lead the modernization of our enterprise data platform. This role will focus on transforming legacy systems including Informatica, Sybase, and Oracle 19c into a scalable, high-performance, AI/ML-ready environment powered by Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), Exadata, and Talend. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience designing insurance-specific data architectures and implementing Medallion architectures, supporting real-time and batch pipelines, and enabling advanced analytics, regulatory reporting, and operational decision-making across underwriting, claims, and finance domains.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and own the target-state enterprise data architecture, guiding the migration from legacy platforms to a modern cloud/hybrid ecosystem.
• Architect and implement Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) to support various insurance use cases including operational reporting, actuarial modeling, and AI/ML enablement.
• Build scalable, secure, and performant data pipelines using ODI, Talend, and Oracle GoldenGate for real-time and batch ingestion.
• Define and maintain data models, metadata standards, and best practices aligned to insurance data needs (policy, claims, billing, reinsurance, etc.).
• Work closely with data engineers, platform teams, actuaries, and analytics teams to deliver governed, high-quality data products.
• Oversee integration strategies with source systems (e.g., policy admin, claims, CRM) and external data providers (e.g., ISO, reinsurers).
• Lead design reviews, provide technical leadership, and mentor junior architects and engineers.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (NAIC, IFRS 17, SOX, HIPAA, etc.) and data governance policies.
• Contribute to roadmap planning, tool selection, and architecture governance frameworks.

Required Skills & Experience:

• 10 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data platforms.
• Proven expertise in insurance data domains: policy, claims, underwriting, billing, actuarial, and financial data.
• Strong experience designing modern data pipelines and architecture using:
  • Oracle GoldenGate
  • Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
  • Oracle Exadata
  • Talend
  • Oracle 19c, Sybase, Informatica (legacy experience)
• Proficient in data modeling techniques (dimensional, relational, NoSQL) and metadata-driven architectures.
• Deep understanding of Medallion/lakehouse architecture, master data management (MDM), and data lineage tools.
• Experience designing data systems for AI/ML readiness, including feature stores, model inputs, and data labeling.
• Knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, and compliance in regulated environments.
• Strong collaboration skills across business, technical, and compliance stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor\'s or Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Insurance certifications such as AINS, CPCU, LOMA, or industry-specific knowledge (P&C, Life, Reinsurance).
• Experience working in cloud or hybrid data environments (Oracle Cloud, AWS, Azure).
• Familiarity with tools like Apache Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, or other modern data platforms (a plus).
