HCLTech is looking for an experienced API Developer with strong backend engineering expertise to design, develop, secure, and support enterprise-grade APIs and microservices. This role requires hands-on experience in API-first development, integration with internal and external systems, performance optimization, and working in Agile delivery teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications.
• Work closely with architects, business analysts, product owners, and integration teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable API solutions.
• Develop clean, secure, reusable, and maintainable backend code using technologies such as Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, Python, or equivalent frameworks.
• Implement authentication, authorization, API security controls, logging, exception handling, and monitoring standards.
• Integrate APIs with internal systems, third-party platforms, databases, and cloud-native services.
• Support CI/CD automation, deployment, and release activities across development, test, and production environments.
• Troubleshoot API performance issues, production defects, integration failures, and service availability concerns.
• Prepare and maintain API documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI and ensure adherence to coding and documentation standards.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, estimation, code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior developers and promote best practices in API development, security, and engineering excellence.

Required Skills and Experience

• 5–10 years of hands-on experience in backend application development and API development.
• Strong experience in REST API design, microservices architecture, and distributed application development.
• Proficiency in one or more backend technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Python, C#, or equivalent.
• Good understanding of API security standards including OAuth 2.0, JWT, TLS, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with API testing and documentation tools such as Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, JMeter, or similar.
• Experience working with CI/CD tools, Git-based source control, build pipelines, and automated deployment processes.
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes will be an advantage.
• Strong debugging, analytical, problem-solving, and production support skills.

Qualification and Competencies

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and client stakeholders.
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions.
• Strong ownership mindset with focus on quality, delivery timelines, security, and operational stability.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery models.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with API gateways or API management platforms such as Apigee, Kong, Azure API Management, or AWS API Gateway.
• Exposure to DevOps practices, cloud-native architecture, observability tools, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Knowledge of GraphQL, gRPC, event-driven architecture, or messaging platforms will be an added advantage.
• Prior experience in client-facing delivery, enterprise application modernization, or large-scale integration programs.
• Demonstrate accountability for assigned deliverables and ensure timely completion with quality.
• Follow HCLTech delivery governance, coding standards, information security practices, and client-specific processes.
• Collaborate effectively with onsite, offshore, client, and third-party teams.
