Job summary

PierSight Space seeks an AOCS Engineer to collaborate with ADCS and flight dynamics teams on a SAR satellite constellation. You will tackle real subsystem challenges on a spacecraft being built and flown, guided by a mentor, with your analysis influencing design and test decisions.

The role involves building ADCS models, analyzing test data, performing orbit and attitude studies, and documenting results for reuse by the team.

Qualifications

• B.Tech, M.Tech or equivalent degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical or a related field.
• 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Working knowledge of MATLAB or Python.
• Coursework in spacecraft attitude dynamics, control systems or orbit mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Build and refine ADCS simulations in MATLAB or Python, including sensor and actuator models and control mode behaviour.
• Analyse ADCS hardware test data and vendor documentation, and flag limitations or anomalies.
• Run orbit propagation and attitude pointing studies relevant to SAR imaging geometry.
• Assess how attitude and orbit knowledge errors affect SAR data quality.
• Support ADCS integration and testing activities alongside the AIT and Systems teams.
• Document your methods and results so the team can reuse them.

Nice to Have:

• University CubeSat or small satellite project experience
• Experience with STK, GMAT, Orekit or similar mission analysis tools
• Familiarity with state estimation (Kalman filtering, residual analysis)
• Interest in SAR or EO missions, GNSS-based orbit determination, or propulsion and attitude interactions
• Comfortable working between theory and hardware reality
• Curious, and keen to build understanding from first principles
• Clear communicator who can explain results to non-specialists
