Job summary

Rakuten Travel in Bengaluru seeks an experienced Android Engineer to design and build features for a large user base. You will collaborate with product managers, UI/UX designers, and QA engineers, and contribute to a robust Android app using Kotlin, Coroutines, and Jetpack Compose.

Ideal candidates hold a BS/MS in CS and have 8–10 years of Android experience, with proficiency in modern architecture components, data binding, and testing.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent degree.
• 8–10 years of experience in Android development.
• Strong Kotlin experience with 3+ years in Kotlin-based Android apps.
• Solid understanding of Android features, data binding, and architecture components.
• Experience with ViewModels, Navigation, Compose, Flow, DI (Hilt/Dagger).
• Familiarity with Retrofit, Glide, Gradle, Git, and testing practices.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, UI/UX Designers, and QA Engineers to design and implement new features.
• Partner with API developers and fellow UI engineers to develop and maintain a robust, scalable system for our large user base.
• Research, propose, and contribute to the continuous evolution of the technology powering our Android applications.
• Stay up to date with the latest Android technologies and apply them to enhance our products.
• Continuously refine technologies, processes, and team collaboration to identify and implement more effective solutions.

Mandatory Qualifications:

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent degree
• 8 to 10 years experience
• Strong ability to develop Android apps using Kotlin with more than 3 years' experience
• Strong understanding of the latest features and development best practices for the Android platform
• Understanding of Data Binding and Live data
• Understanding of Android Architecture Components such as ViewModels, Activities, Fragments, Navigation, Compose, Flow, Dependency Injection with Hilt or Dagger
• Good grasp of functional and reactive programming
• Hands on tools (ie. Studio, IntelliJ, Jenkins/Bitrise, Gradle, git)
• Knowledge of Third-party libraries, KTX, Retrofit, Glide, Coroutine, Google Map
• Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and empathy
• Strong motivation for developing product with teams
• A desire to continually improve, suggest idea for organization and teams
• Strong UX and design sensibilities
• Experience of writing Unit test
