IT Support Engineers work with Amazon teams to provide and support the IT equipment and services they need. We treat Amazon employees as our customers and provide timely, accurate, and professional support. A successful IT Support Engineer I excels in a fast-paced, team environment and possesses excellent communication skills. They have a high degree of technical aptitude over a large scope of IT software, hardware, and networking disciplines.

Key job responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with our Network Engineering & Network Technical Project Manager teams to ensure fast, smooth rollout of new designs and products.
  2. TCP/IP networking knowledge.
  3. Broad understanding of infrastructure technologies.
  4. Experience with cabling infrastructure best practices and methodologies.
  5. Familiarity with common networking terms and fabric based network design.
  6. Manage work and priorities through ticketing system and workflow.
  7. Collaborate with various stakeholders or vendors to execute projects.
  8. Troubleshoot cabling infrastructure connectivity issues, including patch panels and patch cords.
  9. Specify Power and Cooling requirements and ensure Hardware Racking/Stacking is completed for new equipment.
  10. Complete customer requests via trouble ticketing system and project management workflows.
  11. Deliver simple, sustainable, and repeatable solutions and processes.
  12. Automate manual tasks and create/improve small tools that help make team operations more efficient.
  13. Participate in the migration, basic configuration, and rollout of new or upgraded hardware.
  14. Troubleshoot difficult IT problems without SOPs.
  15. Plan and coordinate CMs and CM templates.
  16. Participate in hiring, training, and development of others.
  17. Lead and deliver projects.
  18. Good understanding of infrastructure technologies, including Routers, Switches, Load Balancers, and Firewalls at the enterprise level.

A day in the life:

As an IT Support Engineer, you will use your technical knowledge and specialized skills to support, build, implement, and improve technology solutions. You are able to manage large projects with minimal guidance that affect multiple locations in a region. You are able to resolve customer issues in times of crisis to get them working again. You are actively expanding your scope of knowledge by learning about software design patterns, data structures, AWS technologies, and distributed systems concepts.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT related field.
– 5+ years of experience in two or more of the following: Microsoft Administration, Linux Administration, or Cisco IOS (CLI).
– 5+ years of troubleshooting skills in a multi-user high availability environment.
– 5+ years of experience with networking concepts such as DNS, DHCP, SSL, OSI Model, and TCP/IP.
– 5+ years of experience in PC repair, troubleshooting, deployment, and liquidation.
– 5+ years of IT experience with client, server, and network service delivery.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Cisco CCNA or CCNP certification.
– Experience in Linux, Microsoft, and network systems administration.
– Troubleshooting skills of very complex systems.
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
– Ability to manage high priority projects.
– Excellent analytical skills.
– Familiarity with major Internet routing protocols, BGP, OSPF.
– Ethernet and IP networking knowledge and experience in the application of IP protocols.
– Substantial background in large scale datacenter network implementations and support.
– Experience working in virtualized enterprise networking environments.
– Knowledge or awareness of IT best practice frameworks (ITIL, COBIT) and Operational Excellence concepts or methodologies is a plus.
