Job description

Who we are looking for

The Global Client Implementation(“GCI”) department drives the successful execution of initiatives for external clients onboarding on our Front-to-Back platforms and CRD. We are looking for a seasoned and delivery-focused Project and Portfolio Manager with a strong track record of successfully leading large, complex, client-facing transformation programs. As part of the Alpha Business Project Management Team, you will drive the execution of strategic initiatives for both internal and external clients of State Street Bank. You will be responsible for managing programs across the full project lifecycle, overseeing key project deliverables or workstreams, and ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Why this role is important to us

The Assistant Vice President, Alpha Implementation PMO serves as the analytical backbone and strategic governor for State Street Alpha front-to-back platform onboarding and data transformation programs. Moving beyond passive administrative tracking, this role transforms standard PMO datasets (milestones, capacity, finances, and RAID logs) into highly actionable delivery intelligence. The VP must explicitly articulate quantitative program impacts, pre-emptive risk trends, and deployment efficiencies to senior executives and clients. The role is the analytical backbone of the PMO. It owns the production of all governance reporting, from weekly status updates to board packs and steering decks, and maintains the RAID log with the rigor required to make it a credible governance tool. The team you will be joining plays an important role in the overall success of the organization. Across the globe, institutional investors rely on us to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability. To make that happen, we need you to help navigate employees and the organization. This role requires someone who can credibly challenge senior stakeholders, workstream leads, capability teams, and client contacts, and who has sufficient domain understanding to know when reported data or statuses do not reflect reality. In your role, you will strive for cutting‑edge solutions that are straightforward and scalable. You will help us build resilience and execute day‑to‑day deliverables at our best. Join us if making your mark in the financial services industry from day one is a challenge you are up for.

What you will be responsible for

  • Program Planning – maintain heat map MI (Management Information) and transform JIRA data into progress reports for different stakeholder levels.

  • Risk, Issues, and Escalation – maintain the RAID log, score risks, and produce RAID summaries for governance packs.

  • Client‑Facing Activities – produce client MI and performance reporting packs in client‑facing environments where expectations, communication, and accountability can be more demanding and nuanced.

  • Chair cross‑workstream coordination forums and resolve blockers that cannot be addressed at the workstream level.

  • Ensure Alpha processes, procedures, and controls align with expected corporate behavior, comply with compliance standards and support corporate risk excellence standards that will facilitate clean audits.

  • Drive continuous process reviews and recommend improvements to senior management including SteerCo / Joint SteerCo coordination and stakeholder management.

  • Review and challenge all governance pack content before Program Director approval, including RAG status, RAID entries, and milestone status.

  • Interact with the full Alpha business project organization, business and corporate functions, and Alpha IT project organization regarding portfolio management.

  • Ensure adherence to the relevant frameworks and procedures established for portfolio management.

  • Manage large projects independently from beginning to end, ensuring delivery across the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, implementation, control, risk and cost management, and scope and change management.

  • Support automation, digitalization and AI initiatives where appropriate.

  • Work closely with corporate functions, business leads, and PMOs across all business lines and jurisdictions to coordinate project working groups, develop project plans, identify objectives and key milestones, and bring initiatives to successful completion.

  • Coordinate deep dives into business requirements to ensure they are exhaustive and clear to all parties involved.

  • Define and execute project governance.

  • Executive reporting and dashboard preparation. Perform administrative tasks as required, including budget management, resource allocation, and resource monitoring.

  • Support project documentation and reporting tasks.

  • Vendor Management – oversee vendor management activities related to SOWs, resource onboarding, resource tracking, budgeting, forecasting, invoice reconciliation, milestone tracking and payments.

  • Manage and oversee Clarity timesheets, ensuring they are tied to project financials, and manage deal deferrals with the corporate accounting team.

What we value

  • JIRA and Confluence proficiency – comfortable maintaining trackers and dashboards, not just querying them.

  • Risk management framework knowledge – understands qualitative and quantitative risk scoring.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple simultaneous tasks and projects in a high‑pressure, dynamic, and deadline‑driven environment.

  • End‑to‑end project and portfolio management experience, preferably managing regulatory, client, and corporate transformation projects.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to work as a team player across geographies and cultures.

  • Experience interacting with all levels of the firm, including senior stakeholders and Alpha Executive Board Members.

  • Good understanding of financial regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.

  • Strong analytical and technical capabilities, with excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.

  • Experience in handling business deliverables, such as requirements specifications, operating models, and risk and governance frameworks.

  • Adopt common PMO standards, templates, controls and best practice.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in technology, accounting, finance, business, or equivalent experience.

  • Advanced project management skills supported by relevant credentials, such as PRINCE2, PMP, or equivalent certification.

  • 14+ years of experience managing business projects in large, global financial services organizations or consulting firms.

  • Experience in Financial Services, Asset Management, and Asset Servicing.

  • Adherence to SLA timelines and KPI metrics as defined.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Visio and MS Project.

  • Proven leadership and presentation skills, with the ability to interface effectively with an executive audience and coach and develop high‑performing staff.
