Join our Network Engineering Team

The Network Engineering team is a highly skilled group of individuals that work on various technologies including DWDM transport, switches, routers, peering/backbone/transit circuits, DDOS mitigation, NetApp Filers, and other quasi network/software systems in support of Akamai’s mapping technologies.

Partner with the best

As a Network Engineer, you will work as part of a global team on the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of a wide variety of datacenter equipment, including DWDM, NetApp storage equipment, as well as working with routers and switches. You will work closely with internal and external organizations on new installations, capacity upgrades, and development of organizational standards.

As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for:

1. Installing, configuring, and maintaining DWDMs, NetApp Filers, switch and routing gear.
2. Configuring and monitoring complex network equipment and high capacity data circuits, as well as dark fiber.
3. Working with partners/ISPs to maintain complicated interface configurations.
4. Working with vendors and internal organizations to build out large points of presence across the globe.
5. Escalating both internally and externally to resolve provider connectivity issues, working closely with our NOCC.
6. Creating and maintaining detailed documentation on router configuration and non-standard setups.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

1. Have 2+ years of expertise working in a Linux or Unix environment.
2. Have experience with protocol analyzers and circuit debugging/test equipment.
3. Have experience with Cisco and HP switches.
4. Understand the end-to-end data flows and traffic patterns.
5. Have troubleshooting skills and the ability to tune capacity and improve performance across platforms.
