Deutsche Bank is seeking a Lead AI Engineer to architect and deliver scalable AI solutions across the organization. You will drive projects from design to deployment, focusing on automation, NLP, and conversational AI using Gemini and VertexAI.

You will lead cross-functional teams, ensure code quality and governance, and work with product and data science leaders to deliver high-impact AI products in a financial services context.

Job description

Position Overview

As a Lead AI Engineer, you will stand at the forefront of innovation, architecting, developing, and deploying groundbreaking AI solutions that redefine what’s possible. You will lead projects utilizing a modern technology stack to forge impactful, scalable applications—ranging from intelligent automation to sophisticated conversational AI—accelerating digital transformation in Treasury and dramatically enhancing user experiences and operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, architect, and implement highly scalable AI‑powered applications and services using Python, FastAPI/Flask, FastMcp LangGraph, ADK, and Google VertexAI.
• Integrate, fine‑tune, and optimize large language models (especially the Gemini Model) for advanced NLP and generative AI tasks.
• Architect and orchestrate advanced Agentic AI patterns, building autonomous systems that manage complex AI workflows with frameworks such as ADK and LangGraph.
• Define and implement seamless API architectures and integrations with internal and external systems, ensuring optimal data flow and functionality.
• Lead the deployment, management, and optimization of AI solutions on cloud platforms, leveraging GCP services including CloudRun/GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Composer, and CloudSQL.
• Establish and enforce rigorous code quality standards, AIOps governance, and comprehensive testing strategies for AI projects.
• Lead research into the latest AI, machine learning, and NLP advancements, translating cutting‑edge developments into innovative solutions.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and engineering leaders to align priorities and ensure delivery of high‑quality AI products.

Qualifications & Experience

• 13+ years of experience as an AI Engineer or equivalent, with a proven track record of leading technical initiatives.
• Expert‑level proficiency in Python (including scikit‑learn, pandas, NumPy) and SQL; extensive experience with FastAPI or Flask.
• Deep hands‑on experience with Google VertexAI and large language models, particularly Gemini.
• Proficiency in developing conversational AI solutions using Dialogflow CX and Agentic AI principles with ADK and LangGraph.
• Expertise in API design, integration, and management within large‑scale systems.
• Strong knowledge of Google Cloud Platform services (CloudRun/GKE, BigQuery, GCS, CloudSQL) for AI/ML workloads.
• Familiarity with AIOps practices for model deployment, monitoring, and performance management.
• Experience with UI frameworks such as Svelte, Angular, Django, Streamlit, or Taipy is a plus.
• Strategic problem‑solving skills, excellent communication, and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Preferred: Domain knowledge in the financial services industry.
• Academic background: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, AI/ML Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, optimise workflows, and solve business problems while applying critical judgment to ensure responsible and ethical use of data and AI outputs.
