Job summary

AI.Prof seeks a driven intern for Healthcare AI engineering to design and ship Voice AI agents that converse naturally in telephony and web channels. You will build LLM pipelines, perform prompt engineering, and integrate with live telephony for real hospital deployments.

You will work with Forward Deployed Engineers and product teams to automate healthcare workflows and improve agent capabilities in production environments.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and pipelines, including prompt engineering and RAG/tool use patterns.
• Exposure to agentic frameworks or ability to pick up new frameworks quickly.

Job description

Our Healthcare Engineering team builds the AI systems that run directly inside hospital operations not pilots, not demos. We own the full stack from Voice AI and LLM pipelines through to the telephony and workflow integrations that hospital staff rely on every day. The bar is high, because the systems we ship touch real patient-facing operations: a broken agent isn't a bug ticket, it's a disrupted hospital workflow.

About the Role

What You'll Do

• Design and ship Voice AI agents that hold natural, low-latency conversations across telephony and web channels, under real-world network and audio conditions.
• Build and orchestrate LLM pipelines prompting, chaining, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation as production systems, not one-off scripts.
• Integrate telephony infrastructure (IVR, SIP/VoIP, call routing) directly with AI voice agents for live deployment.
• Own automation for healthcare-specific workflows scheduling, patient intake, follow-ups, documentation in close partnership with Forward Deployed Engineers and product.
• Evaluate and adopt agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI style orchestration, function/tool calling, RAG) as the ecosystem evolves, rather than defaulting to one stack.
• Instrument and monitor agents in production voice quality, latency, task success rate, failure recovery and act on what the data tells you.
• Turn real deployment friction, surfaced by FDEs and hospital-facing teams, into concrete improvements in agent capability.

What We're Looking For

Technical

• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs and pipelines (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models), including prompt engineering and RAG/tool use patterns.
• Exposure to agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar), or demonstrated ability to pick up new frameworks fast.
• Familiarity with Voice AI stacks speech-to-text, text-to-speech, real-time streaming audio (Whisper, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Twilio Voice, or equivalent).
• Working knowledge of WebRTC and real-time voice agent frameworks such as LiveKit, Pipecat, or similar understanding how audio streams, interruptions, and turn-taking actually work in a live voice pipeline, not just via a REST API.
• Working understanding of APIs, webhooks, databases, and cloud deployment (any major cloud provider).

Good to Have

• Telephony & Call API Integration: Hands-on experience integrating telephony infrastructure, SIP protocols, IVR systems, or programmable voice APIs (Twilio, Exotel).
• Production WebRTC Voice Deployment: Direct experience deploying an end-to-end, real-time WebRTC-based voice agent in a production environment (beyond a tutorial or demo build).
• Healthcare Compliance & Interoperability: Prior exposure to healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR) or building systems within regulated execution environments (HIPAA, SOC 2).

Mindset

• Extreme ownership you take an ambiguous problem from idea to shipped agent with minimal guidance.

• Comfortable operating in an unsolved space healthcare + agentic AI has few established playbooks; you build as you go.

• Experimenter by default you don't wait to be assigned a task to try something new; if you see a better tool, approach, or framework, you prototype it and bring back what you learned.
• Not bound by the ticket you treat the mission as your scope, not just the task you were handed

Qualifications

• Final year student with no backlogs and CGPA above 7.5 (or equivalent academic standing).
• A student, recent graduate, or self-taught builder with demonstrable projects (GitHub, hackathons, personal agents or bots) what you've shipped matters more than the degree.
• Prior hands-on work with LLMs, voice AI, or agents personal projects are valued equally with professional experience.
• Genuine interest in healthcare as a domain where AI delivers tangible, real-world impact.
• Ready to take on real deployment responsibility in a fast-moving startup environment.
