Job description

International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS), part of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), invites applications for the position of Scientific Officer C – High Performance Computing (1 vacancy) at ICTS, Bangalore.

Eligibility & Qualifications

• Full‑time Master’s degree in Science (aggregate ≥60%) from a recognised institution in Computer Science / Application OR full‑time degree in Engineering (BE / B.Tech with aggregate ≥60%) from a recognised institution in Computer Application.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar job profile.
• Experience in administering Debian and Red‑Hat Linux systems, including installation, configuration and maintenance of services (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, VPN, etc.) and Linux networking (TCP/IP).
• Hands‑on hardware and software troubleshooting, preferably in large‑scale high‑performance computing environments.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience scripting in Perl/Python/Bash and programming in C/Fortran/CUDA.
• Experience with Linux kernel modules (preferably for NVIDIA GPUs) and Mellanox InfiniBand cards.
• Familiarity with cluster resource managers such as openPBS and HTCondor.
• Experience with MPI and OpenMP; familiarity with Intel and GNU compilers.
• Experience with installation and administration of Lustre and ZFS file systems.
• Experience with tools for deploying and managing HPC clusters, e.g., FAI, ROCKS, OpenHPC, Nagios.

Job Responsibilities

• Monitoring, management and optimisation of the data centre facility and HPC clusters (hardware and software).
• Provide user support for technical issues, code optimisation and data management.
• Active involvement in expansion of computing facilities and associated infrastructure.
• Document HPC environment and system administration policies and procedures.
• Carry out tasks assigned by the Centre Director.

Other Information

• Pay Level: 10; Pay Stage: 1.
• Age limit: below 28 years (as on 1 July 2019).
• Higher starting salary may be considered for deserving candidates.
• Post is tenable at ICTS‑TIFR, Bengaluru, but may be transferred to other Centres/Field Stations of the Institute if required.
