Qualifications

  • Experience managing project delivery or workstreams and guiding juniors.
  • Advanced written and spoken English with concise reporting and stakeholder communication.

The Role

The Actuarial Associate Manager is responsibility to manage the end-to-end delivery of actuarial projects across reserving, pricing, capital, risk modelling and financial reporting. The role combines hands-on actuarial expertise with technical review, project management, client engagement and day-to-day guidance of a small team or project workstream.

You will apply sound actuarial judgement to data, methods, assumptions, models and conclusions; ensure high-quality and timely delivery; explain findings clearly to clients and senior colleagues; and build team capability through coaching, feedback and knowledge sharing.

What You Will Do
Actuarial Project Delivery
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of actuarial assignments across P&C reserving, pricing and insurance optimisation, captive capital and Solvency II, risk financing, and financial reporting.
  • Define and manage scope, workplans, timelines, budgets, dependencies and quality checkpoints for small to medium projects or workstreams within larger engagements.
  • Prepare and oversee forward-looking loss forecasts, reserve analyses, capital assessments and other bespoke actuarial models for corporate and captive insurance clients.
  • Interpret model outputs, investigate movements and translate technical results into clear, commercially relevant recommendations.
Technical Review and Quality Assurance
  • Perform independent technical and editorial review of data, methodologies, assumptions, calculations, models and client deliverables, applying reasonableness checks and actuarial judgement.
  • Ensure work is accurate, reproducible, appropriately documented and compliant with applicable professional, regulatory and internal standards.
  • Resolve routine and moderately complex technical issues using established methods and prior experience, escalating novel or higher-risk matters when appropriate.
  • Maintain clear review evidence and support continuous improvement of templates, controls and quality frameworks.
  • Lead or contribute substantively to client calls, meetings, workshops and presentations, explaining actuarial methods, findings, limitations and recommendations in accessible language.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across geographies and disciplines, coordinating inputs and ensuring effective information exchange.
Team Leadership and Capability Building
  • Coordinate the daily activities of analysts and senior analysts on assigned engagements, allocate work and monitor progress against agreed plans.
  • Coach colleagues, answer technical queries and provide timely, constructive feedback that improves actuarial judgement, communication and delivery quality.
  • Deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions and contribute to a cooperative, inclusive environment that encourages technical development and shared learning.
  • Support resource planning, workload prioritisation, onboarding and development discussions for the immediate team.

P&C Pricing and Optimisation - Loss forecasting, insurance programme analysis, risk transfer optimisation and strategic recommendations.

P&C Reserving - Reserving analysis, movement investigation, methods and assumptions, report writing and clear presentation of conclusions.

Capital and Solvency II - Profitability and financial strength assessment for captives, review of SCR and technical provisions, assumption challenge and regulatory support.

Bespoke Analytics -Risk financing, modelling tools, scenario analysis, automation, research and multidisciplinary risk projects.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Recognised degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering or another highly numerate discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 out of 13 actuarial examinations completed toward a recognised actuarial qualification.
  • At least 5 years of relevant actuarial experience, including experience in one or more of P&C reserving, pricing, capital, risk financing, captive insurance or financial reporting.
  • Experience managing project delivery or workstreams, reviewing actuarial work and guiding junior colleagues.
  • Advanced written and spoken English, with the ability to produce concise reports and communicate confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Technical Tools

Strong Microsoft Office capability is required. Proficiency in at least one relevant analytical or actuarial tool is expected, such as R/R Shiny, Python, Power BI, RADAR, Igloo or ResQ. The successful candidate should be able to select fit-for-purpose tools, review outputs critically and support reproducible analysis.
