Recording Transactions: Document daily financial activities, maintain general ledgers, and track accounts payable and receivable. Financial Reporting: Prepare essential statements including the balance sheet, income statement (profit and loss), and cash flow statement. Reconciliation: Match bank statements, employee expense reports, and petty cash logs against ledger entries to catch discrepancies. Budgeting and Forecasting: Help department heads build annual budgets, track actual spending against projections, and forecast cash flow. Tax Compliance: Compute tax liabilities, prepare local or national tax returns, and keep records up to date for regulatory audits. Audit Support: Gather financial documentation, answer questions from internal or external auditors, and implement suggested process improvements. Cost and Risk Analysis: Evaluate spending patterns to recommend cost-reduction strategies and flag financial risks. Common Specializations General / Staff Accountant: Handles day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciliations, and routine reporting inside a company. Cost and Management Accountant (CMA): Focuses on internal budgeting, cost-estimating software, and business profitability. Chartered Accountant (CA) / Certified Public Accountant (CPA): Provides advanced financial advice, signs off on official audits, and handles complex tax or corporate finance matters.
