Summary

UST is looking for an experienced Kubernetes Platform Administrator to join the Cloud Platform Engineering team. The role focuses on managing and supporting containerized Java and Python microservices on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), with responsibility for production deployments, service onboarding, troubleshooting, and operational stability across multiple North American projects.

The Opportunity

You will work in a fast-paced production-support environment and provide end-to-end deployment support using Argo CD, Helm, and Azure DevOps YAML pipelines. This role requires strong hands-on Azure and Kubernetes expertise, independent problem-solving, and the ability to manage concurrent production requests with limited onboarding time.

  • Manage and support Java and Python microservices deployments on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Lead or participate in production deployment calls and provide end-to-end deployment support.
  • Handle service onboarding from start to finish, including integration with AKS clusters and Argo CD pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot Kubernetes and deployment issues independently, identify root causes, and resolve production problems.
  • Manage multiple concurrent production requests and respond to urgent issues with minimal guidance.
  • Configure and maintain Helm charts, Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, and Argo CD deployments.
  • Implement and manage Kubernetes secrets using Azure CSI Driver, SecretProviderClass resources, and workload identity.
  • Support Azure integrations, including Key Vault, managed identities, service connections, and service principals.
  • Maintain Kubernetes networking configurations, including ingress classes, annotations, gateways, and controllers.
What you need
  • 4-5 years of hands-on Kubernetes experience with practical exposure to production clusters.
  • Substantial and recent experience with Microsoft Azure and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
  • Expertise in Helm for packaging and deploying Kubernetes applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure DevOps YAML-based CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes integration.
  • Hands-on experience with Argo CD and GitOps-based deployments.
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes secret management using Azure CSI Driver, workload identity, SecretProviderClass, managed identities, and Key Vault.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting Kubernetes pods, deployments, services, networking, and production issues.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes networking concepts, including ingress, service mesh, and traffic management.
  • Knowledge of Azure services such as Key Vault, storage accounts, managed identities, service connections, and service principals.
  • Ability to explain service connectivity to AKS and recommend Azure-specific best practices.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to support North American project schedules and participate in extended production deployment calls.
  • Ability to become operational within approximately one week of joining.
Required Skills
  • GitOps
  • Workload Identity and Managed Identity
  • Kubernetes networking and troubleshooting
Desired Skills
  • Experience supporting multiple cloud projects simultaneously
  • Azure DevX tools and infrastructure request workflows
  • Java and Python microservices support exposure
Qualification

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience may also be considered.

Additional Role Expectations
  • Regular participation in production deployment calls, typically 3-4 calls per day, with some calls lasting 4-5 hours.
  • Direct handling of urgent requests without reliance on a formal ticket queue.
  • Independent decision-making and problem‑solving from the start of the assignment.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform is not required, as infrastructure management is handled separately.
  • Deep programming expertise in Java or Python is not required; application support is team-based.
