Overview

A 2nd Class Boiler Operator job involves the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of boiler systems to produce steam, including managing fuel and water levels, performing inspections and routine repairs, testing equipment, and keeping detailed operational records. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, proper use of controls to regulate pressure and temperature, and sometimes supervising assistant operators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operation & Monitoring
    • Operate boilers, auxiliary equipment, and related machinery.
    • Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure safe and optimal operation.
    • Manage fuel delivery and levels for continuous operation.
    • Maintain water levels and monitor chemical levels in the boiler.
  • Maintenance & Repair
    • Conduct routine inspections, cleanings, and necessary repairs to boiler systems and components.
    • Perform replacements of malfunctioning parts or components.
    • Test safety devices, instruments, and feed water regulators.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, regulations, and manufacturer instructions.
    • Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate steps to address them.
  • Record Keeping
    • Maintain accurate records of fuel stock, water usage, and operational activities.
    • Document all maintenance routines, inspections, and repairs performed.
  • System Control
    • Adjust controls for biomass fuel, water, and steam to ensure optimal operating conditions.
    • Manage the safe startup and shutdown of boilers and auxiliary systems.
  • Supervision (Sometimes)
    • May delegate, schedule, and provide instructions for maintenance and monitoring tasks to assistant operators.
