Job description

Cork city, Ireland | Posted on 30/10/2026

Occupli is partnering with an established engineering business specialising in the design and manufacture of bespoke capital equipment for the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors.

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join an experienced engineering team, contributing to the design and development of complex, engineered equipment from initial concept through to manufacture, assembly and testing.

This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining practical mechanical design expertise with problem-solving, technical collaboration and involvement in the full project lifecycle.

The Role

Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, you will translate technical and customer requirements into detailed mechanical designs and manufacturing documentation, ensuring solutions are technically sound, practical to manufacture and delivered in line with project specifications.

You will also work closely with production, fabrication, automation, procurement and project management teams, providing technical support throughout the design and manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

Develop 3D models and 2D engineering drawings for specialist mechanical equipment using CAD software.

Interpret technical specifications and customer User Requirement Specifications (URS).

Produce detailed engineering drawings, general arrangements, component details, bills of materials and manufacturing documentation.

Undertake mechanical concept and detailed design, including sheet metal components and fabrication drawings.

Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to ensure designs are practical, efficient and cost-effective to produce.

Provide technical support to fabrication and assembly teams, resolving design queries and addressing manufacturing challenges.

Participate in engineering design reviews and coordinate technical documentation for customer approval.

Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve project milestones and delivery schedules.

Support supplier identification, component selection and procurement activities.

Manage engineering design changes and associated technical documentation.

Contribute to Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.

Requirements

A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

A minimum of three years' experience in mechanical design, ideally involving machinery, specialist equipment or engineered systems.

Strong 3D CAD capability, with experience in Solid Edge, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor or comparable software.

Good knowledge of sheet metal design, fabrication and flat pattern development.

Experience producing detailed engineering and manufacturing drawings, including general arrangements, component details and assembly documentation.

An understanding of Design for Manufacture and the practical requirements of fabrication and machining.

Experience working with technical specifications and managing multiple engineering deliverables.

Good communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, production and customer-facing teams.

Additional experience that would be advantageous:

Exposure to pharmaceutical or life sciences equipment manufacturing.

Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and GMP-related engineering documentation.

Knowledge of relevant machinery safety standards and regulatory requirements, including ATEX, CE and UL.

Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing.

Join a technically specialised engineering environment where you will have the opportunity to work on complex equipment, contribute to engineering solutions and see your designs progress from concept through to physical manufacture.
