Job summary

Uisce Éireann is seeking a field-based Operations professional within Asset Operations to support water and wastewater service delivery, safety, and maintenance planning regionally. You will operate the water network, respond to alarms, perform routine maintenance, support compliance and sampling, inform customers, and coordinate with local authorities and contractors.

A full Irish Category B driving licence is required; starting salary is €36,640 and you must reside within a reasonable distance

Qualifications

  • Secondary level education or equivalent work experience.
  • Full, clean, and valid Irish Category B driving licence; additional licence categories are an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of working within a strong health & safety culture.
  • Knowledge of the water network, infrastructure, and operations (advantage).
  • Sound knowledge and experience of skills required for water network infrastructure and operations (preferred).
  • Basic awareness or understanding of water networks and processes (advantage).
  • Experience using IT systems.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in environments that may be uncomfortable or hazardous (e.g., hazardous chemicals, sewage, confined spaces, lone working, deep water, animals). Successful completion of occupational health assessment is required.
  • Literacy skills.
  • Experience working within Water Services and/or other utilities (advantage).

Responsibilities

  • Operate the water network and perform routine maintenance on assets.
  • Monitor chemical dosing measures and support sampling activities.
  • Inform customers about issues and resolutions, investigate escalated complaints.
  • Support customer teams and liaise with stakeholders.
  • Represent Uisce Éireann in the field as first responder and advise on policies.
  • Investigate interventions on the network and escalate as required.
  • Operate valves following controlled procedures to avoid adverse impacts.
  • Respond to alarms and investigate incidents to ensure service.
  • Support incident and emergency response with health and safety compliance.
  • Record data and close work orders in systems.
  • Handle admin tasks and engage with stakeholders.
  • Issue permits to work/access for contractors.

Job description

The Role

Uisce Éireann’s Asset Operations function is the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment, meeting regulatory standards, and managing the majority of operational expenditure. The role is responsible for operational and maintenance strategy, policies, planning, and standard operating procedures for water and wastewater operations both nationally and regionally, ensuring value for money and customer service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate the water network (e.g., operating valves, service reservoirs, pipeline fittings, identifying bursts, etc.) including secondary treatment points to deliver consistent customer service and carrying out routine maintenance activities on the water network assets (e.g., maintenance of valves, pumping stations, flushing mains, etc.).
  • Regularly check the chemical dosing measures at pumping stations and other odour control activities, and support Water Compliance and Sampling teams in operational sampling, including new mains, burst repairs, and failures, reporting analysis results as required.
  • Inform customers about issues and resolutions, investigate and follow up on escalated complaints and local representatives to support consistent customer service and manage public health and compliance risk.
  • Support customer teams (Key Account Managers, Customer Service) with any issues or where works impact customer service delivery.
  • Represent Uisce Éireann in the field as the first responder, advise customers on policies and codes of practice.
  • Investigate water infrastructure, identify interventions on the network, and escalates as required to the Water Network Operations Team Lead.
  • Operate valves following controlled valve procedure to avoid adverse network impacts.
  • Respond to alarms and carry out investigations to deliver consistent customer service.
  • Support and participate in incident and emergency response, ensuring all health and safety standards are met.
  • Investigate chamber covers for damage, escalates issues to the Operations Team Lead, and ensures data capture on issues relevant to operational plans.
  • Work to schedules and close work orders using the provided technology systems, update systems and report on customer issues, ensuring accurate and prompt audit records.
  • Perform reactive investigations, raise work orders, and provide adequate information for customer responses.
  • Handle administrative tasks (timesheets, purchase requests, H&S records, inventory management) via the technology systems.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders (landowners, local authorities, IW personnel, third parties/contractors) as required.
  • Issue permits to work/access/transfers for contractors, ensuring health and safety compliance.
  • Monitor readings from online monitors and service reservoirs, support leakage detection, liaise with the Leakage Detection team.
  • Ensure damage to assets is declared to the Operations Team Lead when required.
  • Support capital works and operation of new or upgraded assets through appropriate training or additional tasks.
  • Participate in out of hours and standby working as required.
  • Operate and maintain Uisce Éireann vehicles and machinery responsibly, following all relevant vehicle, health, safety, and security policies; report traffic accidents, perform vehicle checks, and record defects.
  • Carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the Operations Team Lead.

  • Support the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results and supporting organization‑wide objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Information Security policies, standards, processes, and controls to protect confidentiality, integrity, and availability of business information.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably requested by the line manager.

Please be advised that successful candidates will be placed on the salary band based on their skills and experience, with the starting position for this role being the minimum of €36,640.
