Job summary

Arup in Ireland is seeking a Transport Planning Senior Leader to guide major infrastructure projects, client relationships and bids across Ireland and Europe. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, shape strategy, and mentor talent within Arup’s Cities, Planning and Design portfolio.

You will provide strategic direction on complex transport programmes, drive business growth with new commissions, and strengthen client partnerships while delivering innovative, sustainable transport solutions

Qualifications

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional qualification).
  • Significant experience (15 years+) leading transport planning projects, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Demonstrable success in project leadership, securing new commissions and delivering complex multidisciplinary programmes.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Appropriate professional status (or working towards) with a membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional chartered institute.
  • An integrated design mindset, the ability to connect technical, commercial and creative thinking to deliver innovative, client‑focused solutions.
  • Proven experience leading, developing, and mentoring high‑performing teams.

  • Drive business growth through the identification of market opportunities, development of client relationships, and leadership of successful bids and proposals.

  • Lead and inspire multidisciplinary project teams, promoting collaboration, innovation, and excellence in project delivery.
  • Act as a visible market leader, representing Arup and strengthening our market presence in Europe.
  • Champion the implementation of our Total Design approach, embedding integrated and sustainable solutions across projects.
  • Support the development of talent through mentoring, coaching, and career development of early‑career professionals.
  • Contribute to strategic business planning and the continued growth of our transport capability.

Arup’s Transport Planning team are keen to hire a senior leader to support the continued development of our transport planning offer as part of our wider Cities, Planning and Design portfolio. The individual will lead on the planning of major transport infrastructure, major developments and in the development of transport‑related policy and strategy in addition to taking on management and mentoring roles. Working alongside other leaders, you will identify new client opportunities, lead winning bids, raise our profile in the market and successfully deliver transport planning services to existing clients.

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team working on a diverse portfolio of technically challenging transportation projects across the infrastructure, government, education, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and data centre sectors.

You will play a crucial role across the entire project lifecycle to evolve and grow our Transport Planning offer, consolidating and leading our work across Ireland, and providing technical planning expertise to projects across both Ireland and Europe, and linking closely with the wider Europe region on project delivery, resourcing and bidding.
