Job summary

eBay, a global ecommerce leader, seeks a Software Engineer – Traffic to design, build, and operate traffic management systems that support availability, performance, and security across its large-scale platforms.

You will work on high-performance, low-latency architectures, including Kubernetes, collaborating with SRE, platform, and application teams, with opportunities to use modern tooling and engage in large distributed systems.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).
• 2+ years in networking/traffic engineering, platform, infrastructure, or related work.
• Proficiency in Java, C++, or Go with knowledge of data structures, concurrency, debugging.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, load balancing, TLS.
• Experience with Kubernetes, containers (Docker), and service-to-service networking.
• Familiarity with Envoy, NGINX, or HAProxy and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, OpenTelemetry).
• Experience with performance profiling, latency reduction; exposure to PoP/edge concepts is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain traffic management services and tools (Java/C++/Go).
• Improve network security via secure service communication and routing controls.
• Deploy, operate, and troubleshoot services on Kubernetes across distributed environments.
• Improve latency and throughput through efficient architecture and profiling.
• Use logs, metrics, and traces for root-cause analysis and reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with SRE, platform, and application teams to integrate solutions safely.
• Gain exposure to modern infrastructure and large-scale systems with mentorship.
