Job description

Job Title: Toolmaker

Overview

My client, an established manufacturer in Co. Westmeath, is seeking a skilled Toolmaker to join their team in supporting production through the upkeep, repair, and enhancement of moulds, jigs, and fixtures. This hands-on role involves working closely with both internal teams and external partners to ensure tools and equipment are always in optimal condition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of tooling used in manufacturing.
  • Inspect and verify the quality of replacement parts and tooling components upon arrival.
  • Service and modify injection moulds, jigs, and fixtures to meet production requirements.
  • Keep accurate records of tool servicing and maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose issues affecting tool performance and support improvement measures.
  • Contribute to the setup and qualification of new tools and machinery.
  • Communicate with vendors, suppliers, and external toolmakers as needed.
  • Support the training and development of apprentices and junior staff.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the team leader or supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

Education & Certification

  • Trade certification or formal qualification in Toolmaking or a related field.

Technical Skills

  • Solid experience with machining processes including milling, turning, surface grinding, and spark erosion.
  • Strong understanding of injection moulding operations.
  • Capable of fully dismantling, assessing, repairing, and reassembling complex tooling systems.
  • Ability to work independently in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with technical documentation and maintenance systems.
  • Strong IT and communication skills, with a proactive and solution-focused mindset.
