Job Title: Technical Leader I - Distribution System Operations

Location: Dublin, Ireland, EEU - Ireland Home Office

Job Summary and Description

EPRI Europe is seeking a Technical Leader I to support work focused on electric distribution systems, addressing the challenges utilities face in operating, restoring, and strengthening these systems under evolving conditions. This role will contribute to applied research, technical project execution, and direct engagement with utilities and industry stakeholders, with a focus on operational needs, system performance, restoration, and resilience-related priorities. The ideal candidate will combine strong experience in distribution operations with sound technical judgment, customer and industry engagement skills, and the ability to identify needs that can help shape future research and project opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical research and analysis related to distribution operations, reliability, and resilience.
  • Support execution of technical projects for utilities and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical reports, presentations, workshops, and other client-facing materials.
  • Engage with customers and industry stakeholders to understand needs and inform technical work.
  • Help identify future research, project, and business development opportunities.
  • Work across teams to connect operational and resilience perspectives in project execution.
  • Utilize emerging artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, improve decision-making, and support business objectives.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Approximately 5-7 years of relevant experience in electric utility distribution systems or a related field.
  • Strong experience in distribution operations, such as feeder operations, switching practices, outage response, restoration, control centre, or operational reliability.
  • Experience with resilience-related work, such as vulnerability assessment, storm or extreme event response, resilience planning, or risk-informed decision-making.
  • Experience performing independent technical analysis and contributing to complex technical project execution with limited supervision
  • Experience working directly with utilities and industry stakeholders to address technical challenges and translate emerging needs into relevant technical work or future opportunities.

  • Strong understanding of electric distribution system operations and utility operational challenges.
  • Ability to apply technical knowledge to reliability and resilience-related issues.
  • Strong customer and industry engagement skills, with the ability to build credibility and develop relationships with utility stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify needs and translate them into relevant technical work.
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
