TLI Group is seeking a Technical Director to lead the Engineering & Design function across Civils, Grid, Overhead Lines and Substations. This senior role provides technical direction and ensures alignment with operational delivery.

You will strengthen collaboration with Operational Directors, E&D teams, and clients, upholding governance and design-review processes while guiding capability development across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience in engineering, design or technical leadership within power/utilities/critical-infrastructure sectors.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering or design teams.
• Strong understanding of design, constructability, programme, commercial performance, and operational delivery.
• Experience working with clients, network operators, consultants, and delivery partners.
• Chartered Engineer status or equivalent would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall technical leadership across Civils, Grid, Overhead Lines and Substations.
• Lead and develop the Engineering & Design function with consistent standards and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Strengthen interface between Engineering & Design and operational delivery teams.
• Ensure designs are practical, coordinated, and aligned with project delivery requirements.
• Act as senior technical point of contact in client engagements.
• Support resolution of complex engineering, design, and constructability matters.
• Promote robust technical governance, assurance, and design-review processes.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering quality, design coordination, and operational integration.
• Support development of engineering capability, technical knowledge, and succession across the organisation.
• Represent Engineering & Design within the senior leadership structure.

TLI Group is seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead and oversee our Engineering & Design function across Civils, Grid, Overhead Lines and Substations.

This is a senior leadership appointment with responsibility for providing clear technical direction across these disciplines and ensuring that engineering and design remain closely aligned with operational delivery.

The successful candidate will strengthen collaboration between our Operational Directors, Engineering & Design teams, and Clients. The role will be central to maintaining strong technical governance, improving coordination across disciplines, and supporting the safe, efficient, and successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

This role can be based in one of our TLI Group Offices.

Qualifications & Skills

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

• Significant senior-level experience in engineering, design or technical leadership within the power, utilities, or critical-infrastructure sectors.
• Strong knowledge of one or more of the following disciplines, together with an ability to lead across the wider portfolio:
  • Civils
  • Electricity grid infrastructure
  • Overhead lines
  • Substations
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering or design teams.
• A strong understanding of the relationship between design, constructability, programme, commercial performance, and operational delivery.
• Experience working with clients, network operators, consultants, and delivery partners.
• The ability to provide clear, balanced and commercially aware technical direction.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to build alignment across engineering, operations, and client teams.
• A relevant engineering qualification. Chartered Engineer status, or an equivalent professional accreditation, would be advantageous.
