Job summary

CoAction West Cork invites applications for a Support Worker at Skibbereen Day Services. The role supports adults with intellectual disability and autism, assisting with programs and personal care at The Adult Services Centre.

The post is a permanent contract 13 hpw with reporting to the Instructor/Coordinator. Base: The Adult Services Centre; emphasis on dignity, independence, and person-centred care.

Qualifications

• QQI (FETAC) level 5 in Healthcare or equivalent.
• The ability to build positive relationships with the people we support.
• The ability to carry out intimate and personal care.
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written/IT.
• Ability to work well within a team and on your own initiative.

Responsibilities

• To be aware of the individuality of each person and their communication.
• To treat the person with dignity and respect at all times.
• To promote a friendly and supportive environment in the centre.
• To encourage independence and personal development.
• To provide the highest possible standard of care and develop a caring relationship with service users.
• To assist with personal care where appropriate (clothing, feeding, toileting, hygiene).
• To report accidents, incidents and complaints promptly.
• To be an active advocate for people using the service.
• To participate in recreational activities and outings.
• To work as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaise with staff.
