Job summary

DBFL is seeking a Structural Engineer in Cork to join the team. The role involves delivering designs from concept through to site supervision, ensuring compliance with Eurocodes and Irish Building Regulations.

You will review colleagues’ drawings, inspect on-site works, and liaise with clients and contractors while supporting the growth of the team. The ideal candidate will have a Civil/Structural engineering degree, 2–5 years of experience, and strong AutoCAD proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3rd level qualification in Civil or Structural engineering.
  • Chartered or near Chartered with 2–5 years’ experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.
  • Hands-on experience with several construction methods and materials.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable to evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare preliminary scheme design options for discussion and approval.

About the role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join our team at DBFL in the role of Structural Engineer.

The successful candidate is expected to be autonomous and familiar with current codes of practice. They must demonstrate a level of responsibility taken on projects from details design through to supervision of work on site with a knowledge of building control regulations and procedures.

Key roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to a Director/Team Leader, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following :-

  • Preparing preliminary scheme design options for discussion and approval.

  • Producing structural design calculations and drawings to Eurocodes and Irish Building Regulations.

  • Reviewing drawings and designs from other members of the design team and external consultants.

  • Site inspections involving inspecting steel reinforcement prior to concrete pour and general workmanship on site.

  • Daily problem solving in order to produce safe, economical, and structurally viable design solutions.

  • Liaising with clients, design team and contractors and supporting the growth and the development of the Team.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Desired qualifications and requirements:
  • Minimum of 3rd level qualification in Civil or Structural engineering.

  • Preferably chartered or near chartered with a minimum of 2-5 years’ experience.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience using AutoCAD.

  • Hands-on experience using several construction methods and materials.

  • Great analytical and mathematical skills to conduct accurate calculations.

  • Excellent project management skills.

  • Strong work ethic and dedicated to tasks with a positive attitude.
