Job summary

DBFL is seeking experienced Civil Engineers to join our Civils and Infrastructure teams in Cork. You will contribute from feasibility through detailed design to construction on major national infrastructure projects across the public and private sectors.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–5 years civil engineering experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Level 8 Civil Engineering degree (Hons) and working towards Chartered status with Engineers Ireland.
  • Customer-focused with growing client relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Report to a Team Leader and deliver from feasibility to detailed design for large infrastructure projects.
  • Mentor junior staff to develop technical expertise.
  • Perform site visits and inspections to monitor progress and address contractor queries.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary design and present solutions to project team.
  • Develop awareness of project and commercial management requirements on large infrastructure projects.

Job description

About the role:

Due to an expanding portfolio of projects nationally, we have exciting opportunities for experienced Civil Engineers to join our Civils and Infrastructure teams in Cork. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing services ranging from feasibility studies to detailed designs through to construction and completion of large national infrastructure projects. The candidates can expect to work on a wide variety of projects in both the public and private sectors. Mentoring by assigned members of our Leadership Team will be provided as part of either our Graduate Training Programme or direct mentorship post Chartership. Rapid career progression within an expanding team is possible for successful candidates.

Key roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to a Team Leader, the ideal candidates, pending experience, will display the following key traits and skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong numerical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of civil engineering including the design of drainage, levels, roads, watermains and earthworks
  • A good understanding of design principles set out in national / local authority standards and technical guidance documents such as GDSDS, IW CoP, DMURS, Cycle Design Manual, DMRB, and TII Publications etc
  • Experience in the design and specification of civil engineering materials
  • Ability to interrogate baseline information and prepare innovative, cost effective design solutions for public and private clients using the latest design suites and software applications
  • Multi-disciplinary design co-ordination experience and be able to present design solutions effectively & holistically internally and within a wider project team
  • Performing site visits and inspections to monitor project progress, quality, answer contractor queries and adherence to specifications
  • Ability to mentor junior staff in developing their own technical expertise.
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Familiarity with the preparation of contract documents for Public Works Contracts and participation in the administration of contracts
  • Developing an awareness of project and commercial management requirements on large infrastructure projects
Desired qualifications and requirements:
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years civil engineering experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum Level 8 Civil Engineering Degree (Hons) and working towards Chartered status with Engineers Ireland or equivalent.
  • Customer-focused with growing client relationship management skills
  • Ability to mentor junior staff in developing their own technical expertise.
  • Good planning and organisational skills.
  • A current driver’s licence is desirable.
