Job summary

Becton, Dickinson, and Company in Ireland seeks an experienced Staff Engineer to lead the systems engineering for complex life science and diagnostic products. The role serves as a key technical leader across cross‑functional teams, translating customer needs into robust system requirements and innovative product solutions.

You will drive architecture, requirements management, risk assessment, prototype integration, and verification & validation.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, product development, or product design.
  • Experience in flow cytometry or cell analysis strongly preferred.
  • Experience with lab automation, LIS and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance; design control in regulated environment; FDA experience desirable.
  • Strong knowledge in functional analysis, interface management, maintaining design integrity, scenario generation.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Staff Engineer to lead the systems engineering for complex life science and diagnostic products. The role serves as a key technical leader across cross‑functional teams, translating customer needs into robust system requirements and innovative product solutions.

Main Responsibilities
  • Drive systems architecture, requirements management, risk assessment, prototype integration, characterization, and verification & validation activities.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering projects, support design reviews, develop testing strategies, and apply scientific and statistical methods to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, promote best practices, and contribute to building a high‑performing engineering organization focused on innovation and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline (Biomedical, Physics, Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical). Master’s degree or PhD preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, product development, or product design.
  • Experience in flow cytometry or cell analysis (signal processing, embedded systems, electronics, software, fluidics, optics, or assay reagents) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in technical leadership of complex projects and in people management is a plus.
  • Experience with lab automation, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and 21CFRPart11 compliance; design control in regulated environment; familiarity with external contract design and manufacturing; FDA experience desirable.
  • Strong knowledge in functional analysis, interface management, maintaining design integrity, scenario generation.
Benefits & Salary

Salary Range: €85000–€95000 per year.
