REPORTING TO: Director of Nursing - Person in Charge

JOB PURPOSE: To achieve and deliver the highest possible standard of care professionally through direct nursing care and effective supervision of staff members.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Genuine interest in working with the relevant Client group
  • Current Registration with An Bord Altranais
  • Team Player
  • Experience/qualification in care for relevant Client category
  • Knowledge of HIQA Standards
  • Previous supervisory experience

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Care:

  • Ensure all staff contribute to the efficient running of the Nursing Home and create an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of the Clients
  • Report any ill health among Clients and arrange G.P/Professional visits when necessary
  • Ensure Clients' Care Plans are completed and maintained in collaboration with Clients, Relatives, and other Healthcare Professionals, following An Bord Altranais guidelines and Company Policy
  • Assess all aspects of Clients' care needs, provide health supervision, and direct Nursing Care when required
  • Assess social and health care needs of new Clients, maintain ongoing assessments, and review all other Clients
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure each Client has an individualised Care Plan, reviewed regularly in accordance with guidelines and policy
  • Perform regular checks on Clients and provide clear handover reports at each shift change
  • Administer prescribed medicines according to procedures and document appropriately
  • Practice maximum integrity regarding Clients' personal and financial affairs, avoiding abuse of the privileged relationship

Communication:

  • Participate in Staff and Client meetings as required
  • Establish and maintain good communication with Clients, Relatives, and the multidisciplinary team; provide administrative support when needed

Budgetary / Financial Control:

Monitor the use of commodities and ensure conservation of resources such as incontinence aids, wipes, dressings, and electricity

Marketing:

Actively promote the Nursing Home and enhance personal and professional profile within the local community. Ensure the Nursing Home is attractively presented and odour-free at all times, and that viewing rooms are well-maintained

Training / Development:

  • Supervise and instruct junior and new Staff Members
  • Maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence; stay updated in clinical expertise
  • Attend mandatory training courses as required

Health & Safety:

  • Report illnesses or accidents immediately
  • Implement health and safety policies and emergency procedures
  • Report hazards and promote safe working practices

General:

  • Adhere to all relevant guidelines and regulations
  • Maintain documentation and confidentiality
  • Notify the D.O.N of any inability to report for duty
  • Ensure security and maintenance of equipment and premises
  • Perform other reasonable tasks as assigned
