The fundamental philosophy guiding this position is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Values and Ethos.### ### **Aims*** ### The philosophy guiding the post is to promote and preserve the Bon Secours Mission, Value and Ethos maintaining awareness of the privacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities.* ### As Oncology Staff Nurse, this position seeks to ensure maximum support and continuity of care for patients, and their family, undergoing SACT and radiotherapy* ### To develop the service in line with patients needs. ### Responsibilities### Practice within the limits of ones experience and with assistance from other Clinical Nurse Specialists and Nursing Staff to:-### Maintain high standard of Nursing Care.### Develop Clinical expertise.### Uphold Ethical Values of the Hospital### To practice within the policies and procedures, legal requirements, guidelines and standards as directed by the Hospital and NMBI.### To support the policies, mission statement and values of the Hospital.### ### Clinical Practice* ### To provide effective and efficient nursing care by:-* ### Assessing the physical, psychological, social and spiritual aspects of the patient.* ### Providing care as directed by Medical Staff and other disciplines.* ### Preparing patients and their families for discharge.* ### To co-ordinate the administration of SACT in liaison with Oncology NCHD while strictly adhering to agreed protocols.* ### To provide specialist advice and education on oncology within the hospital to staff.* ### To act as a support within the Hospital, co-ordinating the care of patients during diagnosis, treatment and on-going care.* ### To support, counsel, advise and educate the patient and include them in the rehabilitation process as appropriate. To also include relatives where appropriate.* ### To use discretion and decision making regarding patient care, referring appropriately to Medical Staff or other disciplines.* ### To function effectively and quickly in an emergency situation.* ### To ensure all documentation relating to patient is accurately maintained in the patients medical records in line with policy and procedures and the record is kept in a confidential manner.* ### To act as a Mentor or Preceptor for new staff members. ### Communication* ### To report verbally and in writing pertinent patient care information to appropriate nursing/medical staff and other clinical staff.* ### To liaise with Consultants as required.* ### To liaise with the General Practitioner/Public Health Nurse/Palliative Care when necessary for patients being discharged home.* ### To provide outreach support by telephone for patients following discharge.* ### To establish and maintain good communications and linkage between the Nursing, Clinical and Pastoral Care Staff of the Hospital.### ### ### Health & Safety* ### To be aware of Health and Safety issues to provide and maintain safe environment for self, colleagues and patients.* ### To ensure all nursing and non-nursing procedures are carried out professionally and safely.* ### To practice and promote safe work practices in the administration of SACT within the Department (Health and Safety – Disposal etc/Risk Management/Infection Control).* ### To report adverse occurrences as per hospital policy.* ### To liaise and co-operate with Infection Prevention Control Nurse in the prevention of hospital acquired infection. ### Quality* ### To implement quality standards ensuring that a quality service is provided at all times.* ### In Consultation with relevant staff to research and implement revised practices/new procedures as appropriate and in accordance with best practice.* ### To communicate all policy changes to the relevant staff.* ### To participate in Quality monitoring as assigned.* ### To co-operate with the Quality & Risk Manager. ### General* ### To keep up to date with the latest developments in Medicine/Nursing – reading current literature, attending lectures, seminars and refresher courses specifically the specialist area of Oncology.* ### To assist in orientation of new staff as required and provide in service education to staff.* ### To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.### CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS 11TH OCTOBER 2026
