Job summary

Blackrock Health Galway Clinic in Galway on site is recruiting a Staff Nurse for the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Angiography Day Unit. You will support patients from admission to discharge, covering a range of diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures.

The role requires an RGN with NMBI registration and at least two years post-registration experience, preferably in Cath Lab or related areas. On-call flexibility and patient-centred care are essential.

Qualifications

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMBI registration.
• A minimum of two years' post-registration nursing experience; Cath Lab, cardiology or related areas desirable.
• Excellent assessment, communication and organisational skills; ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to patient-centred care and ongoing professional development within Cath Lab/ADU.
• Flexibility for on-call duties when trained and competent.

Responsibilities

• Work on a rotational basis across the Cath Labs and Angiography Day Unit as assigned by CNM3/CNM2.
• Provide safe, evidence-based care for diagnostic and interventional cardiology patients.
• Complete admission, pre-procedure assessment and preparation, including cannulation and education.
• Develop competence in circulating, scrub and monitoring roles; haemodynamic and ECG monitoring.
• Deliver post-procedure observation and recovery in ADU; manage discharge planning.
• Administer medications per hospital policy and maintain safe custody of medicines.
• Respond to emergencies, support resuscitation, and uphold infection-control and radiation-safety standards.
• Participate in equipment checks, quality improvement, audits, and supervision of juniors/students.

A vacancy has arisen within the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory and Angiography Day Unit for a Staff Nurse.

The successful candidate will support patients throughout their pathway, from admission and preparation through procedure, recovery and discharge.

The Role:

• Work on a rotational basis across the Cath Labs and Angiography Day Unit, undertaking duties allocated by the Cath Lab CNM3/CNM2.
• Provide safe, evidence-based care for patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiology procedures, including coronary angiography/PCI, electrophysiology procedures, device implantation and structural heart interventions.
• Complete patient admission, pre-procedure assessment and preparation, including cannulation, documentation, medication checks and patient education.
• Develop competence in circulating, scrub and monitoring roles within the Cath Lab, including haemodynamic and ECG monitoring and accurate procedural documentation.
• Deliver post-procedure observation and recovery in the ADU, including vascular access-site care, recognition of deterioration, escalation of concerns and safe discharge planning.
• Administer medications in accordance with hospital policy and maintain safe custody and documentation of controlled and other medicines.
• Respond effectively to emergencies and support resuscitation, while maintaining infection-prevention, radiation-safety and patient-safety standards.
• Participate in equipment and stock checks, quality improvement, audit, education and the supervision of junior colleagues and students.

The Candidate:

• Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMBI registration.
• A minimum of two years' post-registration nursing experience; experience in a Cath Lab, cardiology, coronary care, critical care, theatre/recovery or acute medicine is desirable.
• Excellent assessment, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A commitment to patient-centred care, ongoing professional development and competency-based training within the Cath Lab and ADU.
• Flexibility in work practices, including participation in the on-call rota once appropriately trained and deemed competent.
