Job summary

Medtronic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, and test software powering life-changing medical technologies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan deliverables, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers, all within regulated environments to ensure patient safety and quality.

The role emphasizes Agile practices, high‑quality code, and reusable components, with a focus on scalable software and ongoing improvement across the development lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience, or 2 years with an advanced degree.
• Experience building scalable, maintainable software with strong documentation.
• Experience in regulated environments such as medical devices is a plus.
• Proficiency in Agile, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and modern best practices.
• Proficiency in two or more of JavaScript, HTML, C#, .NET MAUI, iPadOS.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test software solutions for medical technologies, complying with development standards.
• Collaborate with product engineers, architects, software developers and test engineers to plan and execute.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and foster engineering excellence.
• Participate in reviews of requirements, architecture, designs, and code.
• Identify opportunities to improve development processes and quality practices.
• Design reusable frameworks and components to accelerate development and maintainability.

A Day in The Life Of:

In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior Software Engineer role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Design, develop, and test innovative software solutions that power life‑changing medical technologies, ensuring compliance with software development standards and best practices.
• Collaborate with product engineers, technology architects, software developers, and test engineers to define technical solutions, plan project deliverables, and drive successful execution from concept to release.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to software engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
• Participate in technical reviews of requirements, architecture, designs, code, and other engineering artifacts, ensuring high‑quality outcomes and timely delivery of project commitments.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance development processes, quality practices, and team effectiveness.
• Design and implement reusable frameworks, components, and engineering patterns that accelerate development, improve maintainability, and increase team productivity.
• Drive innovation by exploring new technologies, tools, and approaches that enhance software quality, performance, and user experience.
• Partner closely with cross‑functional teams and global stakeholders to deliver high‑quality software solutions that make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.

Key Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant software engineering experience, or an advanced degree with 2 years of relevant technical experience.
• Passion for building high‑quality, scalable, and maintainable software solutions, supported by strong documentation practices.
• Experience developing frameworks, reusable libraries, platforms, or shared software components that enable efficient product development.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and collaboration skills with a desire to help teams grow and succeed.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a passion for tackling complex technical challenges.
• Proven ability to thrive in an Agile, fast‑paced, and highly collaborative environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
• Experience developing software within regulated environments such as medical devices, healthcare, automotive, aerospace, or other quality‑focused industries is an advantage.
• Experience with Agile methodologies, Test‑Driven Development (TDD), and modern software engineering best practices.
• Proficiency in two or more of the following technologies: JavaScript, HTML, C#, .NET MAUI, iPadOS.
• Experience with application architecture, software frameworks, design patterns, and reusable component development is highly desirable.
