Job summary

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Data Science & Learning Analytics team is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to derive critical insights from large digital learning datasets. You will create datasets, dashboards, and metrics to guide product decisions, combining technical skills with business acumen for data-informed strategies.

Responsibilities include data preparation, descriptive analyses, and KPI development, with a focus on clear storytelling and stakeholder communication across teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a data analyst role.
• SQL expert who can extract and transform data from a data lake.
• Hands on experience using one of R or Python.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git.
• Have cloud platform experience (AWS preferred).
• Enjoy working with stakeholders to analyze problems and develop KPIs.
• Excellent data visualization skills, build dashboards (Shiny / Tableau / etc.) and tell stories.
• Bring expertise in data documentation and automated data validation.
• Strong analytic, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Communicate clearly in English to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Test data to identify data integrity issues, troubleshoot problems and coordinate with Data Scientists to plan solutions.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Data Science & Learning Analytics team is looking for a Senior Data Analyst to help deliver critical digital insights and visualizations from massive digital learning datasets. You’ll be instrumental in the creation of new datasets, dashboards and metrics that will report on and provide actionable insight to support product development decision-making. This role will combine strong technical and communication skills with business acumen to advance data-informed decision making at HMH.

The Senior Data Analyst will:

• Have 3+ years of experience in a data analyst role.
• Be a SQL expert who can extract and transform different types of data from a data lake.
• Have hands on experience using one of R or Python.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git.
• Have cloud platform experience (AWS preferred).
• Enjoy working with stakeholders to analyze problems and develop KPIs.
• Have excellent data visualization skills, you can build dashboards (Shiny / Tableau / etc.) tell stories and present evidence.
• Bring expertise in data documentation and automated data validation.
• Have strong analytic, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Have excellent English verbal and written communication skills, you can clearly communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Experience using quantitative analysis to identify trends and improve business decisions.
• Creativity in developing new processes, analyses, and recommendations.
