Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Data Science & Learning Analytics team is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to deliver critical insights from large digital learning datasets. You will create datasets, dashboards, and metrics to support product development decisions while combining technical skills with strong business acumen.

The role emphasizes SQL data extraction, R or Python usage, data visualization, and clear communication with stakeholders.

Competenze

• 3+ years of experience in a data analyst role.
• Proficient SQL for data extraction and transformation from a data lake.
• Hands-on experience with R or Python.
• Experience with Git and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
• Strong data visualization skills using tools like Tableau or Shiny and ability to tell stories with data.
• Excellent data documentation and automated data validation.

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Data Science & Learning Analytics team is looking for a Senior Data Analyst to help deliver critical digital insights and visualizations from massive digital learning datasets. You’ll be instrumental in the creation of new datasets, dashboards and metrics that will report on and provide actionable insight to support product development decision-making. This role will combine strong technical and communication skills with business acumen to advance data-informed decision making at HMH.

The Senior Data Analyst will:

• Have 3+ years of experience in a data analyst role.
• Be a SQL expert who can extract and transform different types of data from a data lake.
• Have hands on experience using one of R or Python.
• Experience with source control tools such as Git.
• Have cloud platform experience (AWS preferred).
• Enjoy working with stakeholders to analyze problems and develop KPIs.
• Have excellent data visualization skills, you can build dashboards (Shiny / Tableau / etc.) tell stories and present evidence.
• Bring expertise in data documentation and automated data validation.
• Have strong analytic, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
• Have excellent English verbal and written communication skills, you can clearly communicate complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.

Top candidates will have strengths in multiple areas of the following:

• Strong understanding of statistical concepts.
• Experience using quantitative analysis to identify trends and improve business decisions.
• Creativity in developing new processes, analyses, and recommendations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Import, clean, transform, validate, and analyze data to provide evidence to decision makers.
• Test data to identify data integrity issues, troubleshooting problems and makes recommendations and coordinating with the Data Scientists/Psychometricians to plan solutions.
• Perform descriptive statistical analyses and build datasets and dashboards that provide actionable insight to key stakeholders.
