Job summary

Dell Technologies is seeking a Software Principal Engineer in Cork to lead multi-component software projects, shaping the architecture and delivery across distributed systems. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-component software projects through all SDLC stages: planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance
• Translate business goals into engineering plans, specs, and deliverable workstreams
• Drive adoption of improved engineering workflows, reusable tools, and AI-assisted development practices
• Represent the team's technical direction in discussions with architects, product teams, and other engineering groups
• Mentor engineers within and beyond the team to grow technical judgment and delivery quality

• Lead multi-component software projects through all aspects of software development life cycle: planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Translate broad business and customer objectives into clear engineering plans, technical specifications and independently deliverable workstreams
• Drive adoption of improved engineering workflows, reusable tools, AI-assisted development practices and quality guardrails
• Represent the team's technical direction in discussions with architects, product teams and other engineering organizations
• Mentor engineers within and beyond the immediate team, growing their technical judgement, autonomy and ability to deliver high quality software

Essential Requirements

• Exceptional programming skills with at least 8 years of related experience, preferably in C, C++, Java or Python, on distributed systems; strong understanding of programming fundamentals
• Demonstrated experience leading delivery of complex software projects spanning multiple components, subsystems or engineering teams
• Ability to turn ambiguous business or customer goals into actionable technical designs and specifications
• Demonstrable experience guiding AI agents to deliver production level software, evaluating it for correctness, maintainability, performance, security and quality
• Strong understanding of software architecture/system design

Desirable Requirements

• Experience with operating systems, distributed systems, networking, and storage internals
• Familiarity with storage protocols (NFS/SMB/S3)
