Job summary

Autism A Chara (previously Autism Initiatives Ireland CLG) in Naas, Co. Kildare, is seeking a Social Care Worker for a respite service. 39 hours per week, with rota evenings and weekends. You will support people with complex needs, develop and implement care plans, and work within CORU regulations.

The role requires QQI Level 7 in Social Care (or equivalent), CORU registration, and a full driving licence. Excellent communication and a person-centred approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Must have QQI Level 7 in Social Care or equivalent; CORU registration is required or in progress.
• Relevant 3rd level qualification (Social Work/Psychology) with recent experience in supporting people with complex needs.

Responsibilities

• Learn about the person’s needs and preferences and adapt communication accordingly.
• Be supportive, engaging, patient and kind in daily interactions.
• Assist with daily living activities, including personal care and routines.
• Support community engagement and learning new skills.
• Help the person understand their rights and participate in decision-making.

Essential criteria for the position of Social Care Worker

• A full QQI level 7 Award in Social Care or Applied Social Care/Studies/Practice at degree level is essential
• Eligible to register with CORU as a Social Care Worker
• At least six month's recent experience working as a Social Care Worker supporting people with complex needs
• Availability to work shifts on a rota basis including evenings and weekends and waking night duty shifts
• Full, clean Irish drivers licence essential with requirement to drive service vehicles
• Permission to work in Ireland essential

Qualifications required for a Social Care Worker

• A full QQI level 7 Award in Social Care or Applied Social Care/Studies/Practice at degree level is essential, (or relevant schedule 3 qualification as listed on CORUs website) with at least 6 months recent experience working as a Social Care Worker supporting people with complex needs; OR
• A relevant 3rd level qualification at degree level i.e. Social Work/Psychology with at least 2 years recent experience working as a Social Care Worker supporting people with complex needs; AND
• Proof of successful registration with CORU as a Social Care Worker
  • OR proof of application in progress with CORU.

Skills/Abilities required of a Social Care Worker

• Proven knowledge of current legislation and regulations relating to the Social Care Sector
• Understanding of the needs and rights of individuals with autism
• Proven ability to work on own initiative
• Proven experience in the implementation and development of support/care plans and PCP’s
• Places the needs of the person supported as the key focus in all activities
• Delivers support according to the person’s PCP and care plan
• Fluent English and excellent communication skills
• Full, clean drivers licence essential with requirement to drive service vehicles
